Nest Audio Stereo Pair 'can't connect to the other speaker'

aod

I recently got a 2nd Nest Audio so I can create a stereo pair with my original one.

I went through the steps to pair the 2 speakers, and the test sound worked OK.

When I try to play audio via the pair, I hear the following announcement on the speaker that plays the music:

"I can't connect to the other speaker in this pair, make sure it is connected to power and WiFi"
The music then plays on that speaker alone, not the stereo pair.

I've tried this in Musicolet and Spotify and get the same issue.

The speakers work ok individually, just not as a pair.

I've factory reset both devices, set up from scratch in an identical manner, and have the same issue.

I bought the second Nest Audio specifically for listening to music in Stereo, so hope you can provide a solution?

Hi aod,

Thanks for reaching out and for providing detailed information on your issue and the steps that you've done — these are of great help!

How are you playing music on your paired Nest Audio, via voice or via Google Home app? You can try to create a new home structure then move your Nest Audio there. Once done, create a speaker pair again then observe if this will make a difference. Check the steps below for guidance.

Create a home:

  1. Open the Google Home app Google Home.
  2. At the top, tap Add Add.
  3. Tap Create new home.
  4. Follow the steps.

Note: You can have up to 5 homes in your account.

  1. Move a device to a different home:
  2. Open the Google Home app Google Home.
  3. Open the home the device is in.
  4. Touch and hold your device's tile.
  5. Tap Settings Settings and then Device information and then Home.
  6. Tap the home you want to move the device to and then Next and then Move device.
  7. If asked, tap the room you want to move the device to and then Next

Check this link for more information.

Let me know how it goes.

Best,

Juni

Hi thanks a lot for your help.

I've tried this and it works.

The stero pair now play.

Any idea why it doesn't work under my normal Home profile?

FYI, I moved the speakers back to my original home and the issue happened again. Then I moved them back to the new home I created where it had worked but I now have the same problem again.

Hi there,

Thanks for trying that, sorry that you are still experiencing the issue. You can do a factory data reset to put both Nest Audio back to their default settings and set them up as a new device. Once done, pair the device on your old home and see if it will make a difference. Check the steps below on how to reset your Nest Audio.

Here’s how to do the reset. On the back of your Google Nest Audio, switch the mic off. The LEDs will turn orange. It will say "The mic's off" then press and hold the center of your Google Nest Audio, near the top. After 5 seconds, your Google Nest Audio will begin the factory reset process. It will say, "You're about to completely reset this device. Release to cancel" then wait for the chime.

Check this link for more information.

Keep me posted.

Thanks,
Juni

Thanks

I've factory reset both speakers and set them both up as new. I then linked them as a stereo pair in my original home location and got the error message when trying to play music.

I then moved both speakers to the other home that I set up before but this time I got the error message and it didn't work.

It seems to be a very buggy feature. 😠

OK, so I've done the following:

Factory Reset one of the speakers (it wouldn't unpair for the stereo unpair)
Added another new home
Moved speakers to the new home
Set up the Stereo Pair

This works.
So it seems stereo pair only works if you move both speakers to a new home. 🤔

Thanks although I wouldn't say it's resolved.

This is a workaround for a bug. Stereo pairing should just work within the original home. I shouldn't have to move the devices to a different home to get them to work.

HI there,

Thanks for the reply. We're always looking for ways to improve. I'd suggest you submit feedback about it, here's how.

Let's observe if the same issue will happen again on the new home structure. I'll keep this case open for 3 more days and wait for your update.

Thanks,

Juni
