Nest Display as a baby monitor

DonDog

I bought 3 of the model GUIK2

They are a display.  We want to use them with an indoor camera as a baby monitor.  We can get the camera and sound to work on the monitor, but it keeps shutting off and going back to splash screen.  How do I set it so that it permanently displays the camera?

Also, sometimes it says “camera feed is not available”

This a simple feature- surely the product can work as a baby monitor!???

Hey  DonDog,

Thanks for visiting the Community.

I know how important it is for you to be able to monitor your baby on your camera through the Google Nest Hub (2nd gen). Could you tell us the make and model of your indoor camera? Are you getting the message from the Nest Hub screen or on the Google Home app? Also, what are the troubleshooting steps that you've done?

Please note that if you have a wired Nest camera it should stream live video for up to 12 hours. If the Nest camera is battery power, it can only stream for up to 5 minutes. After 5 minutes, you need to reactivate the live stream in the app to continue with the stream. Google doesn't have any information about the stream duration for third-party cameras. Here's a link for your reference: Stream your security camera on TV using a speaker or display

Muddi,  Thank You so much for your response.  I have all Google Nest Cameras.  Both indoor and outdoor.  They are all wired as the battery ones don’t run very long.  The system is entirely Google Nest equipment.  I can get the display to show a camera for 6-10 hours and then the display resets and we have to manually set the display to show the camera again.  I would really like to have 4 cameras permanently displayed on the display.  Commercial and Professional video surveillance equipment has this feature.  Ring has this feature.  I know this feature is not difficult to implement in software.  I have worked professionally with video surveillance since the 80’s.  I hope Google can add this simple feature.  Besides babies this would be wonderful for monitoring an elderly parent!  Or a pet or anything where you want to be able to hear audio and glance at the the screen to see progress.  Maybe you are watching a hot tub fill with water or ?

Hi DonDog,

We appreciate how you love Google products. We're always looking for ways to improve -- we'll take this as feedback. You can also send feedback using your device by saying, "Hey Google, send feedback." Visit this link for more steps.

By the way, do you still get the message “Camera feed is not available”? Can you tell us more about it?

Cheers,

Thank You for your interest.  I am continuing to have problems using the Google Nest monitor to try to display a camera continuously.  After I set the settings and they might work for a few hours to a few minutes and then they reset to some splash screen.  They also loose the camera signal and don't automatically pick it back up.  I am so frustrated with them.  It would seem that I should be able to set them to a specific camera and then lock onto that camera.  That is the way a baby monitor would work and that is the way professional surveillance video works.  I am going to try  a Laptop and see if it will hold the camera picture.  I also have ring, blink, and Wyse.  Those systems are much easier to use in my experience.   Making a video survallience system work like a baby monitor is not that complicated to program.  I was CEO for a software company in the 90's and our programming team could have done that in a few days at most.
