Nest Hub 2 web browser timeout

zyblorg

Hello! I am experiencing the issue described in this thread . Like the people in the thread, I have taken all the logical actions (turned off display timeout, etc). However, the display will always revert to the clock face after some inactivity and I have to search for the page again.

This is very frustrating: the Hub was bought as a tool to display recipes (and broadcast podcasts) while cooking. I should not have to touch the screen every few minutes to keep it from timing out.

Were the past issues in the thread I linked to above resolved? If so, how? I like the Hub but if it can't do what it was bought for, it will be returned.

Thanks!

I'll also add, that I THINK that if you save a recipe to your cookbook, and recall it from your cookbook, that those stay up w/o a timeout.

Hello zyblorg,

Thanks for visiting the Community.

Sorry to hear about your experience with the Google Nest Hub. To help us get a better picture of what's happening, do you mind sharing a video?

Cheers,

Muddi

Here's a link to the video.  You can see that the display reverts to the clock after inactivity. It was fewer than 5 minutes before the screen switched and there is no way to get back to the page that was displayed. I have to search all over again.

We purchased this hub for the kitchen to display recipes while cooking and listening to music/podcasts so this timeout is a great inconvenience.

Hi there,

Thanks for sharing the video. Since all troubleshooting steps have been exhausted, I'll go ahead and escalate this to our higher tier of support. Please fill out this form with all the needed information then let me know once done.

Also, please update the thread with the current firmware version of your Nest display.

Cheers,

Muddi

Has anything happened? It's frustrating that people are asked to fill out the form, then we see no updates.

I have this same problem, browser times out - ONE SIMPLE QUESTION: Has anyone at Google DUPLICATED the problem? They ask for videos, forms, but I never see a simple "Yes, we have duplicated the problem". That's one of the basic steps in troubleshooting.

Hilariously, I ultimately got an email that said they mean for it to work this way, which is absurd. They literally sell this as an aid in the kitchen, and it can't consistently display a web page with a recipe. They provided some vague words that this may be addressed in subsequent updates, but given that other folks have complained and nothing happened, I am not holding my breath.

Thanks for that update @zyblorg  - yes, that's ridiculous. As I'm going through the many similar posts, same story, no one at Google says they can duplicate it, they just give this run-around. I think I'll see if I can still return this, it just doesn't work for basic stuff. I'm going to try to set up an Android tablet for this, should be able to get similar functionality w/o all these crazy limitations.

This is the first time I am learning about the Cookbook feature! Hope access to it on the Hub isn't one of the 17 features that Google is killing...🙄
