Nest announced an incoming call in the middle of the night

At 4am this morning all the Google nests in our house announced ‘incoming call from 0784’ and then it cut off.  We have never used nest for making or receiving calls so it was quite a shock given the time!  I can’t see any trace of this when I look in ‘My Activity’ section either.  Anyone else had this? And how do I stop it happening again?

Hi PersianKAT,

Thanks for posting. We hear you — we can understand why you feel that way. We'll work together to identify the cause of the problem and find a solution. Could you check if your account is linked to the calling service? Check out the steps below:

  1. Open the Google Home app Google Home app.
  2. Tap Settings and then Communication and then Video & Voice Apps

I look forward to your response.

Thanks Juni - yes it says Google duo linked to my phone number.  I don’t recall setting this up, I don’t even know what duo is. I guess I just toggle this off?

Hey PersianKAT,

That's an interesting situation! It is possible that someone in your household may have created a Google Duo account and linked it to your phone number. This is because a Duo account requires an activation code that is sent to the mobile number associated with the account.

If you prefer not to use Duo calling on your speakers, you can easily unlink the account through the Google Home app. Follow the steps below:

  1. Open the Google Home app.
  2. Tap Settings > Communication > Video and Voice Apps > Unlink Google Duo account.

Cheers,

Muddi
