Isn’t google assistant on top left corner of the screen readily respond when touching on screen or do I have to go to its app to press and responds to my command? How does it works? I would rather to hit google assistant when touching on screen.

You can use voice commands to enjoy Google Nest or Home speaker or display features, like media, alarms, lights and thermostats, volume control, and much more. Check this article for more information.
