The insignia speaker in question is probably four or five years old.
The speaker has Google assistant on it. Just recently unable to set an alarm. Google response to trying to set alarm “sorry what’s the day and time”. This feature has worked fine for years.
The Google assistant responds to all other function as it has in the past.
I have reset the speaker, reinstalled it on Google Home, restarted Wi-Fi, etc.
Any assistance is appreciated

Hey folks,
Thanks for visiting the Community.
Sorry to hear that you're having issues setting up an alarm on your Insignia speakers. Please note that we have very limited support for third-party speakers with built-in Google Assistants. Since rebooting and resetting the device did not resolve the issue, it is best to reach out to Insignia Support for better assistance.
Cheers,
Muddi

Mind is doing the same. So what's the fix?

Same exact problem as of like 3 days ago. I use this alarm as my secondary/redundancy alarm every night and it does exactly what the O.P. said. Only Insignia speakers which I have 4 of that all do the same thing when testing this. My Lenovo ones and Google ones work fine. I didn't know if you guys had an update that rendered it useless on this brand. I'll try and ask Insignia for advice but any details good or bad would be appreciated.

Same problem here. Thanks for the weekdays tip!!!
11-21-2023 09:58 PM
So I read on thread and tried it you have to say google set weekday alarm at what ever time and it works!

From my testing, it looks like it could be Google or Insignia that has pushed an update that is causing an error with setting the alarm. My thinking is it's Google that pushed the update for their supported devices and the insignia received an error that needs to be fixed by Google. I don't think Google is going to fix this seeing as the insignia Google Home has been discontinued since 2019 but let's hope Google fixies it.
11-27-2023 01:16 PM
It's definitely a google update thing. My black web soundbars started doing the same thing. At the exact same time the insignia products started acting up. It was After the google update.

Workaround 1: Use the phrase "day after today" instead of the word "tomorrow" when setting an alarm.
Workaround 2: Use the words "weekdays" or "weekends".
Workaround 3: Use the phrase "X days after today" to set an alarm for a date X days in the future.
Workaround 4: Set a timer instead of an alarm.
Note: According to a reddit post the insignia firmware 328 was released 3 years ago, so it is strange we are all seeing this problem simultaneously on this specific device. Maybe there was a change on the google side.
11-22-2023 09:32 AM
" Note: According to a reddit post the insignia firmware 328 was released 3 years ago" This information is very eye-opening thanks. so I am 99% guaranteed that Google Update has broken the alarm feature. google has released an update for their products that has an error on third-party Google Home devices. I don't know if Google is going to fix this problem as they no longer support third-party devices. Google should allow us to download Google Home firmware and upload it so we can choose if we want the latest update or an earlier one.

Or at least give us a way to roll it back to a functional version.
11-22-2023 05:21 PM
Piling on - I've had the problem for about a week. When I searched online for a solution, I found nothing recent. Now, there's about 50 of us reporting the problem. Other non Google products have lost features this year due to app upgrades and old operating systems that are no longer being supported. Now that I see this many people reporting the issue, I'm guessing that's what is going on. For me, this product has one job - an alarm clock with a built-in Google assistant. No more.
11-23-2023 12:38 PM
Same as everyone has mentioned!!!
hopefully this thread will get some attention/love/fixes. Thank you to everyone that’s involved in this process cause it has helped me tremendously
11-23-2023 01:46 PM
We had the same problem. No solution but I did find a work around. You can set a repeating alarm, such as week days at 5am, then cancel or reset each day as needed.
11-23-2023 02:55 PM
Thanks for the information
11-23-2023 07:56 PM
Add mine to the list. It started a few days ago. This device needs to be reliable!
11-23-2023 09:14 PM
Its not your speaker because my blackweb soundbar does the exact same thing. Just started doing this a couple days ago. I've tried everything. But now that I know it's happening to other brands as well. It is definitely on google. China owned harassment by google. Alexa puts this garbage to shame. Google is garbage anymore. Dumb as a box of rocks and mostly worthless.
11-24-2023 05:08 AM
Good to know. I ordered an Amazon Echo Show to replace this device.
11-26-2023 03:52 PM
Setting a reminder is also NOT working. For example; "remind me to pay the phone bill tomorrow at 8am". It tells me to pick a date and time in the future. Insignia/Google Home is really tripping 🤦🏻♂️
Thanks for the alarm workaround but I really wish Google would fix it with an update since their update broke it.
11-26-2023 06:57 PM
I have 2 Insignia speakers also. They both do this now. It's def a software thing for other functions are fine. My Google homes don't do it. Did you contact Insignia support?
11-27-2023 10:23 AM
+1 for me. We also have 4 of them and nothing else on the market checks all my boxes.
11-27-2023 11:35 AM - edited 12-03-2023 07:58 AM
I ordered 2 nest hubs today. Sound won't be as good but extra alarm functions should be nice.
11-27-2023 11:42 AM
I got mine last week. You're correct, sound definitely is not great but the alarm functions are nice. I also like how it detects a dark room and switches to a very dark clock display. (I actually wish I could make the numbers a little bit brighter.)
12-03-2023 08:05 AM
Yeah clock is dim even at brightest setting in dark even with clock on. You could set screen not to dim at night. I like it dark.
11-27-2023 05:00 PM
Same as all the above, thought I could trust Google to not make my device obsolete.....got to go back to 80s radio alarm clock....
11-27-2023 05:13 PM
Not sure if you're serious, but the (now defunct) Insignia clock speaker replaced my (not kidding!) 1985 clock radio. 😂
11-27-2023 08:45 PM
If you need an alarm for tomorrow say"SET ALARM FOR THE DAY AFTER TODAY AT 6AM(OR WHATEVER TIME) ITS THE ONLY WORK AROUND BUT IT WORKS
11-28-2023 04:07 AM
I have about a dozen Insignia smart speakers like yours. They all simultaneously had the same problem about a week ago.
Clearly Google has made a software update that is incompatible with them.
11-28-2023 08:03 AM
Same issue here.
And @Muddi don't post yet again that we have to contact Insignia, they no longer exists and they did not change anything. Google broke this. If Google maintains they no longer support a device they should leave it alone.
This was one of the primary function of this device at our bedside. We could set the alarm, and plug a phone in to charge. Now we have to set a timer instead and hope we did not screw up on the arithmetic.
Supporting hardware is not the same as supporting just a software stack. You have to maintain backward compatibility.
11-28-2023 08:44 PM
All of our products were sold to us with the google logo on the box. With Google products being sold to us. They need to maintain their products software issues.
Google made money on our purchases! Their super overly pricey speakers probably aren't selling like they expected them to. When our aftermarket speakers won't allow us to set alarms we go buy a Google product to replace them. Seems rigged.
11-29-2023 06:33 PM
I’m done with Google home! All my Google homes have gotten worse over the years. I’m all in on Alexa now that they broke my alarm clocks. Alexa just works!
11-28-2023 08:04 AM
Hi, so I made the original post here. I certainly appreciate the many responses and it was unexpected. It would seem to me at this point we all understand it’s a Google issue. I don’t know how much Google monitors this community but if it does, it would be obvious to them that they created the problem. I don’t really know how you would approach them directly or if they would be interested in solving the problem. In my case, I only had one insignia speaker, so I went out and replaced it with a google mini speaker (which as expected does not have the problem) In general, I’m not necessarily a Google person but have the speaker to have some familiarity with Google outside of the search engine, email etc. Good or bad I’m more of an iOS person. I guess in general, it’s not worth further commentary, unless Google comes to the table. But again, I certainly appreciate all of the responses and interest.
11-28-2023 09:23 PM
I had 2 one was large with a battery and great sound while the other was a small one. I replaced them both with Google hubs but didn't toss others in hopes an update may fix them.
11-28-2023 06:50 PM
Same problem as everyone else tried factory resetting and adding to home again. They aren't that old to be made obsolete by an update already.
11-28-2023 07:41 PM
Same as everyone else. Everything was fine with my insignia smart speakers until about mid November and now I can't set alarms no matter what I do.
11-29-2023 07:46 PM
same issue just started few days ago on insignia speaker.

As others of stated in this thread, just say "set an alarm for the day after today for xxxx time" or skip the time part of that and it will ask you for the time. It works just as before with the time showing up on the screen and "AL" lit up as well, just being activated with a different command now. Stupid, yes, but bottom line, everyone can still use these as their alarm clocks until hopefully a revert to being able to use the word "tomorrow" again.
11-29-2023 08:36 PM
For those that need it as an alarm - you can set a recurring alarm by saying "set a recurring alarm from Monday - Friday at 8:00AM" as a work around.
11-30-2023 12:12 AM
I was able to find two solutions/workarounds.
Tell Google “set an alarm” google will ask “for when” you can say date and the time then it’ll work. (seeing today/tomorrow will also work)
The second is if you set it up as an automation within the app.
11-30-2023 04:20 AM
I saw someone had posted a work around on this….and it worked. “Hey Google, set alarm for xxx am weekdays”. It worked perfectly. May be added commands to clear it each morning, but better than replacement of these cool little clocks.
11-30-2023 08:21 AM
Ditto from me. Shame, I really liked the design of this speaker with both time and temperature nicely viewable at night. I'll use workaround for a while and wait to see; Thanks to all for making this visible to Google.
11-30-2023 10:32 AM
Have 2 doing the same thing, made the mistake of hard resetting them. Now can't complete setup. I can use the Device Utility app to find them and add them to a room, but when I get to the "Connect to wifi" step, it fails....Now these things are worthless. Anyone else tried resetting them and able to set them up?
