Not streaming 3AW on Radioapp

Ondapc
Community Member

3AW an AM Melbourne Radio Station will not stream (via Radioapp) to the nest hub. Gold 104.3 FM streams, but not 3AW. This has happened multiple times in the past 2 years.

Just got this update from RadioApp support ...

Thanks for getting in touch with RadioApp.
Due to a firmware update on Google’s side, we’re experiencing issues with playback of radio streams via RadioApp on Google speakers.
We’re working with Google to resolve this and will advise when we have resolved the issue.
In the meantime, you can continue to listen on your mobile device via the RadioApp mobile app on iOS or Android.

Thanks for your patience.

Hello Ratrod.

I have to report that yesterday, the problem now occurs on my Nest mini as well .

The latest from RadioApp support is as follows ...

Hi Steve,

The latest timeline for a permanent fix and a new firmware version from Google is approximately mid-November.

However, we understand that this isn’t ideal, so we are working with the relevant radio networks affected to see if we can apply a temporary fix to the streams to get it to work sooner than that.

I will come back to you once I know more.

Thanks for your patience.

For your reference these are my firmware levels …

Nest Hub Max
System firmware version: 28.20250723.103.2100

Cast firmware: 3.78.497484

Nest Mini
System firmware version: 505077
Cast firmware: 3.77.505077

Hi @Ondapc,

Thank you for posting in the community. I understand you're having issues streaming 3AW via RadioApp to your Google Nest Hub when other stations like Gold 104.3 FM are streaming fine. I'm happy to assist you.

Could you please confirm the model of your Google Nest Hub and let me know if you've performed any troubleshooting steps that have helped you before since you mentioned experiencing this issue multiple times in the past 2 years?

To start, you can try these general troubleshooting tips, which often help resolve streaming issues:

  • Try a different voice command: Sometimes using a slightly different command can help the device understand the request. Try saying, "Hey Google, play 3AW Melbourne" or "Hey Google, play 3AW on RadioApp."

  • Restart your Google Nest Hub: Unplug your Google Nest Hub from the power for about one minute and then plug it back in. This simple step can sometimes clear up temporary glitches.

  • Check the device's address: Make sure the home address for your Google Nest Hub is correctly set in the Google Home app. The device uses this to identify your local stations. You can check this in the Google Home app by going to Settings > Home Information.

  • Try streaming via the 3AW app: As a temporary workaround, you could try casting the audio from the 3AW app on your phone directly to your Google Nest Hub.

If the issue persists, the best course of action is to send feedback through the Google Home app on your phone. This directly informs the development team of the specific issue, especially if it relates to a recent bug or recurring problem with a specific station and streaming service.

Let me know if trying a different voice command or restarting your device helps!

Regards,

Anders

Where do I find out the model? I have tried turning off the mini and I have unplugged it a number of times. I don't know how to stream or to check the devices address. Can you help me to try these methods?

I have the same problem again.

Hello.

I have exactly the same problem (again).
As @Ondapc  has said, this has happened multiple times , here is one such that affected me ...

https://www.googlenestcommunity.com/t5/Speakers-and-Displays/RadioApp-not-loading-on-Google-Nest-Hub...

Took weeks to be resolved in that issue, and I never found what the root cause of the problem was.

Symptoms are the same again  ... and I have done all the steps that Anders has suggested above.

RadioApp will not load some stations on my Nest Hub Max. Other nest devices in the same household are fine.
Has been working fine, but stopped again this morning 24/10/2025. Responds to my voice command "Play 3AW' but then the loading process freezes. Some other radio stations seem to load ok on Radioapp ... GoldFM, but not all ... 3MP, FOX and MMM also will not load ... haven't tested others.

I have submitted feedback through the Google home app.

I am also experiencing this problem playing 3aw on my nest. It plays okay on my mini. I have factory reset my nest after numerous times turning it on and off and the issue has not resolved itself.

As of this morning, 2/11/2025, RadioApp is working again for 3AW on my Nesthub and mini devcies.

The firmware levels on my devices have not changed, so the solution must have been found elsewhere.
Perhaps RadioApp support were able to fix this ?
If I ever find out, I will post what I find here.

Well done for your persistence

Hope it is working again for you as well.

Finally fixed here too. Working for my mother as well, which she depends on living semi rural with terrible AM and dubious digital reception.

Looks like the problem is back again. Many (but not all) radio stations will not play through RadioApp on both my Nest mini and Nest Hub Max.

I have reported the issue to RadioApp support, but no response yet

Thanks -yes - same here -3AW is not working re the RadioApp!!

Hello Panelajoy.

I wouldn't worry about checking all that stuff. The problem in the past has been fixed by external parties ... probably RadioApp and / or Google. You can get some info about your devices in the Google Home App , in the devices section.

Also , I can Cast from my phone to the mini, but casting to the Nest Hub Max also does not work.

Same here and same for my relatives.  Thanks for logging tickets Steve.

Edit: As an aside, some really weird things happened last night - may or may not be related.
1- Cloudflare outage
2- Google Home - at precisely 23:31:03 AEDT last night 18/11/2025, Google Home sent a command to turn off EVERY device in my house - Lights, TV's, AirCo, Fans, Google Mini's playing radio.  The reason I know is I run OpenHAB and it logged commands sourced from Google turning everything off at that exact time.  Very, VERY weird. Glad I don't run any smart life-support devices!!!  That said, I was walking down stairs when everything went pitch black.  Not a safe situation.
In a decade of running home automation, I've never seen this happen before.  Probably not direct cause/effect, but coincidence or not, it's Google Home/Nest related.

Wow, that's weird and scary. Please post any other strangeness, and maybe log an issue with Google ?

The problem seems to be fixed ... sometime this afternoon 19th November.
Working on both my nest devices again.

I have not been contacted by RadioApp support this time about this issue.

Thanks so much.

They need to sort this out so it doesn’t happen anymore.

Is anyone else have issues with their Google Nest not playing the radio app. It was only fixed a couple of weeks ago and now it’s down again as of yesterday. Trying to listen to 4bc in Brisbane and have resorted to using my phone app. Really get frustrated with these software updates causing issues!!

My Google Hub has stopped streaming IHeartRadio and the Radioapp. I notice this has occurred around the world over the last 12 months but it is now a problem here in South Australia. Any way to fix it?

Or in sydney

It seems to have been fixed by Google......back up & running today.

Only Radio app now working in Sth Aus. I Heart Radio still inoperative.

I have a number of Google Nests which were able to stream local radio stations. In recent days, they either don't stream at all or stream for 5 minutes then stop. There are no issues with my wifi. Everything else is working perfectly. All the radio stations I listen to are still available to stream. I live in NSW Australia.

Ditto. East coast NSW, two other families households also doing the same.

I can play ABC radio, but no commercial stations. This has just stated. Worked fine for years until a couple of weeks ago.

Hope someone has some answers!!

There are a few duplicate threads for this one, but yes 100% whatever was fixed from the radio app issue in 2024 seems to have been added back in recently, hopefully this will help Google resolve it faster though.

Introduction
I use the same commands on my Google Home Hub multiple times per week to play music via the linked SiriusXM account. Every few months, this feature stops working for hours, days, or even weeks at a time. I have now been unable to listen to SiriusXM via my Google Home devices for over a week. I didn't change anything about my SiriusXM subscription, my Google Home devices, or my network, so why does this keep happening? It seems to occur randomly and is very frustrating.

Gemini
Yesterday I switched from the Google Assistant to Gemini to see if that would resolve the issue. Then I issued the command, "Play SiriusXM Chill on Sirius XM." (SiriusXM Chill is the name of a SiriusXM radio station.) Gemini on the Hub responded, "Sorry, I can't play music on this device yet." I asked, "Why can't you play music on this device yet?" It responded:

I apologize, but I am Gemini for Home, a large language model. I do not have the ability to play music or interact with external applications or services on your device. My purpose is to provide information and assistance through conversation.

I then issued the radio command again and received the same response: "Sorry, I can't play music on this device yet." I asked again, "Why can't you play music on this device yet?" It responded:

As Gemini for Home, I am an AI assistant. I don't have the capability to directly play music or control media functions on this device. My purpose is to provide information and assistance through conversation.
I assume this is just Gemini saying something untrue as usual, but am I wrong? If I can no longer play or control media on my Home Hub, then I really need to switch back to the Google Assistant ASAP.

Only One Command Works
Today I tried saying, "Turn on the radio." My Home Hub proceeded to play the radio station I most recently listened to. Good! This tells me: 1) Gemini is, in fact, capable of controlling media on the device, at least in some capacity. 2) My Google and SiriusXM accounts are still linked. I then tried to play other stations, with poor results:

  1. Command: "Play SiriusXM Chill"
Response: "You got it. Streaming SiriusXM Chill from SiriusXM."
Effect: Nothing. The Hub continued playing SiriusXM Chill. OK
  2. Command: "Play SiriusXMU" (a different station)
    Response: "Streaming SiriusXMU from SiriusXM."
Effect: Nothing. The Hub continued playing SiriusXM Chill. Not OK
  3. Command: "Play NPR Now on SiriusXM" (a different station)
Response: "I looked for that, but it either isn't available or can't be played right now."
Effect: Nothing. The Hub continued playing SiriusXM Chill. Not OK
Other Troubleshooting
  • I tried unlinking the SiriusXM account from my Google account and then re-linking them. This had no effect.
  • I checked my SiriusXM account online to make sure there are no issues with the account. There are no issues. I've still been able to play all stations in my car via the same account, too.

How can I play radio again on my Home devices? And how can we prevent this recurring issue from happening every few months?

Note: In order to create this post, I had to select a platform. None of the options were applicable. I selected "Android", but this issue has nothing to do with Android.

Yea!! Pleased to report that whatever “they” fixed seems to have worked today. Fingers crossed the radio streaming on our Google Nests keeps working consistently now.
