One npr station wont play

For some reason, Arizona Public radio will not play anymore on our device. When we ask google to play that station, it briefly flickers up and says ready to cast and then it says unable to play the station try again later.  The station plays fine on our phones and over the air of course so I know the station is on and working. Any ideas? By the way I can ask for other public radio stations to play on this device and it works just fine. It always has played the station and it was working until about a week ago and then nothing but like I said that station will play just fine on our phones over the Internet, etc..

Same from tucson for several days. It happened a couple of years ago as well and suddenly came back. Any ideas?

We were thinking it had happened before also.  Not sure except I think I'll contact KUAZ--that's the station you mean, right?

I bet. It has to be a Google issue but really irritating. I'm streaming through sonos tunein. Or not at all.

Thanks for posting and for being a step ahead of us. 

I know how it feels when something isn’t working as it should, so let’s get this resolved. I’m glad that other stations are working. @Dougb2, when you contacted the station did they mention anything about changing the keyword to play their radio station? What command are you both using when streaming that radio station? Check the sample commands below and see if it will work for the both of you. 

Say "Hey Google," then:

Listen to closest radio station by name:

"Play K-Love on TuneIn"

"Play Mega 97.9 FM"

"Play ESPN Radio"

"Play Mega 97.9 on iHeartRadio"

"Play WNYC"

Listen to radio station by call-sign:

"Play KQED"

"Play KFOG"
 

Listen to radio station by frequency:

"Play 98.5"

Listen to radio station by frequency in another location:

"Play 98.7 New York"

Thanks for trying to help!  We have tried everything, including asking for frequency number, call letters,  etc.  Every other station (including other npr station) plays just fine.  We always just said, "Hey Google, play Arizona public media" and no problems up until about a week ago.  So immediately I tried asking for 89.1, KUAZ, whatever--it always starts off looking like it's going to play, briefly flashes "ready to cast" then says "a problem has occurred, try again later". or "that station is not available at this time".  Meanwhile, I can play it on my phone.  It is frustrating!!

Thanks for responding and providing more info. Since other stations are working, have you already reached out to that radio station to see if it also happens to others? Meanwhile, you can also try performing a complete reset and let's see if there would be any changes on its behavior.

It's a pain to reset but did it. And miracles! It worked. KUAZ playing again. Good grief. But thanks.

Well, that lasted less than an hour. Won't play again. Has to be a Google issue.

Hey Mrschris10,

Can you try playing a different radio station to see if you'll get the same results? Also, try using the same command on the Google Assistant on your phone to isolate the issue.

Those of us (hi Doug) with this issue have only trouble with one station, Arizona Public Radio kuaz. We have tried all other options and always use only one command. For me it was bizarre that resetting brought it back for less than half an hour. When I reset again, it would not play. It is an odd anomaly. It is not the station, it is the nest

Well, I tried loading Google assistant onto my iPhone because I did not have that app on my phone. I then asked my Google assistant on my iPhone to play KUAZ and it worked just fine. This is really weird.

I should add that we reset the Google nest again yesterday both of us deleted and reloaded Google home onto our iPhones. Same result with the nest.

Wow. It plays through your phone and not your nest. I'm betting we need new hardware. Ie new nest. Mine is several years old and what else could it be?

@Zari5499, we're sorry to hear you're also having the same concern. Is it also happening on KUAZ station only? How about other music platforms and radio stations, are they working great? Kindly try the steps above for us to see the difference and tell us how it goes.

Plays fine on my Samsung galaxy phone in the assistant app. Only KUAZ through my mini nest isn't playing. You saw it worked for 30 min once after I hard reset. Odd. Really odd.

Would it be okay for you to reach out to KUAZ support team to gain more information or even other troubleshooting steps? It will help us a lot to isolate this concern since it's only happening between your Nest Mini and KUAZ radio and we have already tried all the necessary steps on your Nest Mini including the factory reset. Please, contact them and tell us how it goes.

Back in Tucson and checked our firmware on our nest hub max.

Cast firmware is 1.63.3247740

I presume this is the one you need?  

Also, the plot thickens.  I was in the midwest and daughter had some google nests (did not note firmware on those but could get if needed).  Asked hers to play KUAZ or Arizona Public Radio.  Response was "that station is not available right now, try again later."  Tried a couple of times.   Do I need to reach out to KUAZ again as the initial contact wasn't very helpful?

Hey guys, Alexa user here. Doesn't work on these devices either. No response from KUAZ but I think it's on their end. Works on the phone app, but not Alexa and not on Tunein.

Vm left for Steve Kostman (?) KUAZ engineer. FYI, I tried streaming every AZPM station, and KUAZ is the only one that doesn't work through the nest mini (NPR or Tunein).

I would encourage all of us to call KUAZ and tell them there is a problem!  It must be something on their end.
