One of my Google minis stops on the middle of a sentence

KAV

I have several Google minis. One of them has stopped in the middle of a sentence while answering a question. It has a good connection to my Google router. What can I do to fix it?

Hi there,

You can try rebooting it from the Google Home app or even doing a factory reset to see if that helps.  Be sure to use the power adapter that came with the Mini too.

Hope that gets it working again.

have rebooted my Google router & modem. Have done a factory reset on all my google minis and nest minis and still having the same problem of it cutting out in the middle of a sentence.  Please help

I  have same problem with BOTH minis.  Tried resetting device, rebotting WIFI, and also reconnecting with Spotify.  Nothing works.  What's going on?

We've had Google Home (3 minis and 1 tall) since 2017.  We replaced all of them from Google Store almost a year ago in 2021.  Everything, including router has been in the same placement and has worked fine. Nothing has changed.  For the past 3 weeks this stopping mid first or second sentence has been happening and its sooooo frustrating!!  We have rebooted and reset as well.  Google needs to figure this out because we are getting close to getting rid of them for another alternative.

Hi Kav,

Thanks for posting!

Sorry to hear about your experience with your Google Home Minis. I'd like to know more about it so we can sort things out.

  • How far is your Google Home Mini from your router?
  • How many Google Home/Nest speakers are connected to the same network?
  • Have you already rebooted your router by unplugging it from the power source for a few minutes? If not, let's go ahead and try that to see if it will improve.

Let us know how it goes.

Best,

Princess

This difficulty is still ongoing. Is there a fix? Is google going to talk about this and at least say that they're working on a fix? This is VERY annoying, I've had to repeat routines up to FIVE times.

After much ado a specialist finally arrives with the long awaited solution. Turn it off and then back on again... lol.  People don't find themselves searching through forum posts to discover a solution they'd surely tried at the very beginning. The OP clearly stated that those steps have already been taken. You came to save the day yet you can't even read. What a joke.

I have 4 minis. The 2 of them are one floor below the router but within 4 feet of a wired Google point. The problem has now spread 2 two minis. I have rebooted the modem & router. I have yet to do a factory reset. Google home app shows they are getting a strong connection.

Hi Kav,

Thanks for responding.

Since two of the Google Nest Mini are affected, let's perform a factory reset on it to see if that would make any changes.

Let us know how it goes.

Princess

Unfortunately nothing works to fix this.

No reset didn't fix.

I just replaced the power cord on one of mine and it seems to have fixed it, try that possibly?

We did that as well. No change.

Give it some time; it will do it again because Google hasn't fixed it.

my google home mini is doing the same thing! Mine only dies it when I ask about the weather. I have rebooted, turned off and on, reset, to no avail!😡

Still no resolve.  The problem has spread to all the Google minis and Google Nest minis.  Factory resets done. Rebooted modem and router. Still no help.  Please get us some help.  One person suggested not using the IPV6, but mine isn't toggled on,

Rebooting, resetting, router, mini, nothing is working. It all seems to have started after Google lost a lawsuit.

https://www.howtogeek.com/778558/google-home-speakers-are-losing-features-due-to-a-lawsuit/

So, in other words its possible that Google mini is no longer a fit for purpose item???

Well get rid of it, throw it out, a lot easier said than done!  I would not recommend anyone to purchase Google nest, Google home now.

I got these in 2017 when they first came out. It connects to my Android phone with reminders, calendar etc. Like the others have said here, if we say the word "repeat" over and over, the answer does finally come through.  However I have found other mistakes in getting information from this system lately, for example, after we say repeat the information comes through and then it asks if you want more information about it you say yes and it always says sorry I can't help. It's definitely failing.  Its FLAWED and it SHOULD BE  fixed by the company. The real problem is Google ignoring the problem.  I'm sure everyone is sending feedback just like I am by saying Hey Google I want to send feedback and then telling it fix stop talking mid-sentence! ...Nothing has changed. You can't call them because it's not really their company on the other line anymore and you can't email them.  I'm going to send an old fashion letter through USPS to corporate: Google, 1600 Amphitheater Pkwy Mountainview CA, 94043.

Anyone else has a better suggestion please let me know. Has anyone switched from Google home to Alexa? Does Alexa send reminders to Android now?

Hi Princess. How about some meaningful help for a change instead of those responses that sound kind of stilted in artificial,  Stop towing the party line please and just own up to the problem, and tell us what can be done to fix it.  How about some firmware to fix this nonsense?. Or else.... What about a recall of devices?

MEANTIME FOLKS UNTIL THESE JOKERS GET THEIR ACT TOGETHER. A CHEESY WORK AROUND IS TO ASK GOOGLE TO REPEAT WHAT IT JUST SAID. IF YOU DO THAT IT WILL FINISH THE SENTENCE.

I'm having the same problem with my mini as well (only one in our house). I've done resets, pulled the plug on both router and mini, moved the router to right next to the mini, and all solutions you've suggested. My mini will still occasionally stop answering mid-answer and will sometimes completely disconnect from my account and/or act like it's had a full reset (one time where it said setup wasn't finished but it was still showing in my app... The other times, it wasn't listed in my app and just said setup wasn't complete). For clarity, it works just fine all the rest of the time and setup has been done several times.

This is my first experience with any Google Home item and it's killed my confidence in ever getting another product from this line.

Please email me if you have another solution.

Yes I have always been a big fan of Google home devices.  At first I thought, could it be that my devices are more than 2 years old?  But no, I see all devices seem affected.  Oddly, though, my old Google Home 7" screen device ( I dont even remember what they are called any more) Is not doing it. Just the minis.   Hm....  It's just occurred to me that I keep that 'screen' Google Home device in Guest Mode only (cuz I dont want my reminders showing up in the kitchen 🙂).  --This now leads me to suspect a possible user profile issue...?   If anyone has any thoughts, please share.

People keep telling the Specialist that none of the fixes she is suggesting are working.  And she keeps responding as if people just aren't following her instructions.  Come on... Google smart speakers have a real problem. Rebooting and resetting and clearing the cache is not the fix.   I have two minis and two displays.  I started have this problem a couple of months ago.  I used to do the "Hey Google, Good Morning" routine every day, but it stopped being able to get through the first sentence.  Now I only use them to cast my audio or for questions with quick responses.   Google, fix this problem.

My Google Nest Mini does the same thing. It's very close to the router and gets excellent connection.

Rebooting it doesn't solve the issue.

Hi Eetheart,

Have you already performed the factory data reset on your Google Nest Mini?

Let's go ahead and follow this step:

  • On the side of your device, switch the mic off. The lights will turn orange. Press and hold the center of the Nest Mini, where the lights are on top. After 5 seconds, your device will begin the factory reset process. Continue to hold for about 10 seconds more, until a sound confirms that the device is resetting.

Let us know how it goes.

Princess

Mine (nest mini) does the same thing.

Rebooting and factory reset do not solve .

Same issue here with Nest mini. For the past 3 or so weeks I’ll ask a question, and more often than not the assistant starts to answer but stops abruptly min-sentence a few seconds later. It has a good connection to the router. Rebooting the router and Nest Mini didn’t solve this, nor did a factory reset.

Have done a reset on my modem and Google router. Have done a factory reset on all m Google minis and Nest minis. Still no help.  It is now doing it on all my minis.  How do we get this fixed for good?  Please help.  Can't chat or talk to google about this

Can Princess read?   Or is she just trying to avoid fessing up to the fact that Google home speakers have a problem that Google needs to fix?  A better answer, Princess, would be to say you will report the problem honestly to Google along with the fact that rebooting and factory resetting does not solve the problem.  Another good answer would be to tell us that Google recognizes there is a problem and is working to fix it, if that is true.  But telling us the same stupid thing that does not work repeatedly is not a good response.

Hey folks,

Apologize for the late response here. I noticed an increase in reports about this issue, and the team would like to investigate it further. A few questions - which specific Google speaker/display do you have? Is it happening to all of your devices? Do you experience the same issue on Google Assistant on your phone? What is the current firmware version of your device?

To check which firmware version you're on, follow these steps:

  1. Make sure your mobile device or tablet is linked to the same account as your speaker or display.
  2. Open the Google Home app Google Home app.
  3. Touch and hold your device's tile.
  4. At the top right, tap Settings and then Device information.
  5. Under "Technical information," find Cast firmware: X.XXX.XXXXX.

Also, it would be awesome if you could send feedback using the keywords, "GHT3 Cutting out in the Middle of a Sentence" so we can further investigate this issue. For instructions on how to send feedback, you can visit here. Please make sure to replicate the issue first before sending feedback.

Keep me posted.

Thank you for responding- Forgive the frustration- We've all  already been doing this

Besides "Hey Google repeat that..."  Many of us are  regularly saying "Hey google send feedback ....You're not completing sentences". If you search through those records over the last couple of months you'll see it's worldwide now.  I do this umpteen times a day, and based on the  posts above, many others are too.  I  recently started hitting below the developer belt, and saying "you write bad code" maybe that finally got your attention?

The reset thing doesn't work.  We've also rebooted  our routers, modems, and flux capacitors. Turned off the "continued conversation" thing.  Tried it in a perfectly quiet environment.   Erased routines to see if there were conflicts.  Proximity to wireless should have nothing to do with this if it was working perfectly fine before.

I  personally have several generations of afflicted minis.   Based on all the  above posts, apparently it's  happening with ALL devices.

As to firmware, please correct me if I'm wrong, but don't the devices  automatically upgrade themselves when possible? Or does the user initiate that?   Somewhere along the line there had to have been an update... and here we are.

Thanks for helping- here's hoping it gets resolved.

Cheers.

If you've been reading these posts:

Does NOT happen with Google Assistant on mobile devices. Happens on ALL Google Home devices mini and tall. Mine specifically were all original 2017 and replaced with mini nests and tall from Google Store 5/2021. Everything worked perfectly until January 2022.

I will use GHT3 when sending feedback.

I find it difficult to belive Muddi, that you aren't experiencing this as well... that is, if you own Google Home devices.

Six Google devices:

Three 1st gen minis: cast firmware 1.56.282045

Three 2nd gen minis: cast firmware 1.54.279716

Problems with all minis. I don't typically use my phone for google assistant so I don't know if it's a problem on the phone too.

Thank you for looking in to this issue.

Hi Muddi,

To reiterate and answer your questions:

1. We have a Google Nest Mini that has been doing this for months (I originally posted 2 months ago and it had been going on for several weeks at that point).

2. This is the only Google device we have.

3. We both have iPhones, so we do not use Google Assistant on our phones.

4. Cast firmware version: 1.54.279716

To be clear, we have tried all the previous recommendations (i.e., powering off and back on, factory reset, changing modem/router placement, modem/router reset, etc.), and nothing has changed/fixed this problem. Incredibly frustrating.

Hey folks,

We appreciate all your patience.

So far, unfortunately I have nothing new to share. The frustration you feel from not having a resolution or just even more information on what's happening is understandable and justified. I'm sharing the same frustration with you because you're still experiencing this issue and I know how inconvenient it has been.

I know the team has been working through this issue and I'll be checking in with them this week to see if there are any updates or progress regarding this so I can give you some valuable information. I'll ensure to follow up with you before the ending of the week to let you know if I have any updates or not.

Cheers,

Muddi
