Playing BBC Radio on Home Hub

I have always been able to play BBC radio stations on my Home Hub by asking 'play radio 4', but today it just responds 'i can't do that on here'. What has changed?

Hey everyone,

I have some great news to share! This issue on BBC Radio should now be resolved. You can now go back to listening to your favorite BBC station on your speakers/display as normal. If for some reason you’re still experiencing problems, please try rebooting your devices to refresh the settings.

Cheers,

Muddi

Yup, sure are!

Oh dear... Spoke too soon.

All radio stations are still not working on my nest mini.

Yes it worked again but then stopped working again… it’s not currently working and yet I haven’t seen any official word on it

Exactly!!!!

Some chat on another forum that it’s a Virgin Media thing. It’s not.  It’s a BBC screw up by the ‘sounds’ of things.

Yep, bloody at it again!

Yes happened earlier this week and happening now 😭

Hey folks,

Thanks for sharing details about the issue here. Our team is aware of the issue on BBC stations that don't play on some Google Home/Nest devices. I'll duplicate this thread to a similar trending issue on this link, and I suggest following the main thread for updates.

For users having issues playing other radio stations using the Google Home/Nest devices, please make sure to follow the thread on this link for additional steps and updates.

Happening to me too. On Google Mini. Have deleted it, rebooted it and reinstalled in on home app, but still not working 🙆‍♂️. Must be BBC or Google 🤬

Have tried Virgin Radio, that works. Must be BBC then

Still not working for any radio station

Yes, not had radio for several days now....not finding much information about it either and many articles are from last year.

It's only one speaker, the nest mini...the two hub speakers work fine. So I played the radio from the hub and sent it to the mini using the screen. That has worked and is keeping my mother happy, but means I can't listen to my music whilst I'm using that as a fix!

So, today is Sunday and it still a problem it would seem.  It's a BBC glich I believe, you know, the one we PAY for!  It's a bloody nonsense.

yes. Me too, It happened a couple of weeks ago and it seemed to correct itself - I did nothing (I had switched off and on again a couple of days before but that didn't fix it). But its happening again - I've been getitng that message for a few days now. I can cast from my phone to it - but not ask it to play my fave radio channels.  😞

Come on BBC &/or Google please repair the link you've broken. It can't be rocket science!

Just to remind everyone all the UK commercial services, via TuneIn, PlanetRadio etc, are working fine.

Just to add to the voices here - I have encountered all the issues described on this thread affecting requests to play BBC radio.  All attempts to ask google to explain what the issue is results in no useful information at all.  As this issue has been going on for so long now surely someone could arrange for a meaningful announcement to be returned when asking “hey google why can’t you play BBC Radio 4?”

So. When I tried 'disguising' the pitch, and accent in my voice ... Google performed my request. So, high pitched Liverpudlian accent (I am one, born there ...) and a low pitched Glaswegian accent (I have relatives living there ...) it worked every time. It doesn't recognise me when I'm changing my pitch & accent it seems.😉

I have 4 nests 1 in each room and only 1 plays bbc Radio Merseyside

This has been driving me mad for days. Glad it's not just me but frustrating that a solution hasn't been found yet.

Same here. Very frustrating and the BBC post on this is nearly a week old!

Yes! I am currently having the same issue. I don't have any other devices! I play BBC R2 every day whilst working from home 😤

Same happening here. Would be nice to have an acknowledgement from Google about the issue, glad the BBC have done so.

Me too. One speaker didn’t work, then the other. Factory reset both speakers and reconnected and now both don’t play radio and say ‘ I can’t do that here, but you can ask me to play it on one of your devices.'

I have this issue in Melbourne Oz. Works for my partner but not me for a specific AM radio station. I can play other stations, but not 3AW. Not all radio apps list it. Factory reset did not help. Clearly Google hates me🙂. Still exploring.

Should add: speaker is a Home Max

Mini nest speaker has started to say “I cannot do that here but I can play it on one of your other devices” when asked to play a radio station.

I have rebooted the speaker, I have rebooted the router and I have done a factory reset but no change.

Same here. Started in Friday 7 April 2023.  I've reset everything and it doesn't fix the problem. One workaround is to connect the speak to your phone via Bluetooth and play radio from your handset, but you shouldn't have to.

I have the same problem. I am unable to play BBC radio stations on the hub.

They can be played on other devices!
What a pain.

Same issue. Is it an issue with BBC sounds?

Mine has also decided to boycott bbc radio. Very annoying

apparently the BBC have dropped the technology that drove the speakers and do no have a f ix. it was not due to happen until mid 2023 but that is all I can find

Looks like this is a known issue the BBC are aware of and investigating.
