Problem with speaker group

vthehot
Community Member

I have a Google Home. I also just bought a brand new Sony TV (KD-55X82K) with the Google TV platform. I see both of them in the Google Home app and can easily cast to both (separately). I wanted to create a Speaker Group, but only my Google Home device is showing up. The TV is missing.

Any idea why? How can I fix this?

P.S. all software that could’ve been update, has already been updated

Hey all,

Apologies for the confusion around the supported devices for speaker groups. We let the right teams know, and we can confirm that speakers with Chromecast built-in are supported. We've also updated the list of supported devices on our Help Center article "Create and manage speaker groups" to make it more specific than before.

Thanks for your feedback here in the community - feel free to update the thread if you have any further questions!

Cheers,

Hey vthehot,

Thanks for posting — we'd love to help.

To create a speaker group, you would need 2 or more of the devices listed below. You can group speakers, Smart Displays, and Smart Clocks in any combination.

  • Google Nest and Home speakers and displays
  • Chromecast (2nd generation and above)
  • Devices with Google Assistant
  • Chromecast Audio
  • Speakers with Chromecast built-in
  • Google Nest Wifi point

There's a chance your TV is not compatible with the speaker group. You can also coordinate with your TV manufacturer for additional information.

Best,

Alex

My device does have a Google Assistant, which is 3rd on your list.

Sony said that’s an issue on Google’s side.

Does the Sony KD-55X82K support speaker groups?

Hey folks,

Chiming in, please note that the supported devices are speakers, Smart Displays, and Smart Clocks in any combination. TV's with built-in Chromecast devices like Sony KD-55X82K are not supported. For now, you need to have an external Chromecast or Google TV plug in to include it on your group.

Hope this helps.

This is not correct. According to Google's own article, supported devices include those "devices with Chromecast built-in". There is no mention in the article of TVs with built-in Chromecast being excluded. There is only an explicit disclaimer about Chromecast (1st gen), which is not my case.

My Sony TV has a Chromecast built-in and according to the article above, I should be able to use it in a speaker group.

Furthermore, please have a look at this:

As you can see, both the Chromecast dongle and the TV with the built-in Chromecast can be added to a speaker group.

Hey vthehot,

We can confirm that TV's with built-in Chromecast devices are not included. It may appear on the lists of devices when adding or creating speaker groups due to the built-in Chromecast but since it's built-in to the TV it's not officially supported.

Thank you for understanding.

In this case, why does Google's own article claim that supported devices include those "devices with Chromecast built-in"?

I am having this same issue.  It definitely is a Google home issue not Sony

Probably my question is related to the problem but with other brand, LG, an speaker with an older firmware cast version 1.36 (like a 1st generation). I'm able to create the speakers group with my two nest minis and the LG, but I only get play music together by pairs. LG with one of the minis, or the two minis together. Any clue on this? I'm getting crazy !!

definitely a bug on Google's side

Thanks a lot @vthehot, looks like as you say... I'm pretty new in this community, any advice to manage this kind of bug or any contact? Or simply pray and hope problem was selfsolved?

I would start a chat with Google support team.
