Problems Changing Volume of All Speakers

Dear Google.  You need to fix your software.

Your devices are "OK" but your software has gone really, really, really downhill.

I asked my Google Home Max to "Hey Google, set all fans to 50%".  It managed to set all my speaker volumes to 50%.

Then I asked it to "set all speakers to 20%" and it said "Sorry I cant help with that".  Tried again - no to speakers, yes to fans - setting the speakers to 20% when I asked fans to be set to 20%.

This was not happening last week.  I have turned off my power at the main switch in my switchboard and have powered down all devices, waited then let them power back up again.  No changes.

I am Australian.  I have a smooth Australian accent and annunciate my words carefully.

When Google has been recognising what I've been saying for the past number of years, and now will not respond to things such as "tell me what the outdoor temperature is" or changes to speakers (but will respond to changing fans as speakers..) - this really tells me that Google need to do some serious work on their software.

Hi, @Bbradford84,

Thank you so much for reaching out to the community. I understand how frustrating it must be to have your Google Home Max not respond to your voice commands as expected. It's especially annoying when it's something as simple as controlling your speakers and fans. I'll do my best to help you troubleshoot this inconvenience and find a solution.

To effectively troubleshoot, please let me know:

  • Is your Nest Hub Max powered on?
  • Is Google Home successfully set up?
  • What color is the LED status light on the back of the device?
  • Is your Google Home device muted?
  • Does Google Home never respond to the hotword, or is it only sporadic?
  • How long did your device work as intended before experiencing this symptom?
  • Are the fans and speakers online or offline on the Google Home app?
  • Is your speaker or display powered on and successfully connected to your Wi-Fi network?
  • Is your mobile device connected to the same Wi-Fi network or linked to the same account as your speakers and displays?
  • Can you control your fans using the third-party app?

In the meantime, please try these troubleshooting steps:

Important Note: Avoid turning off the power suddenly, as this can damage your devices or cause power loss.

Please let me know how it goes.

Best regards,

Ana
