Recognition & sharing turned off but others can still cast

Anonymous
Not applicable

Hello. I have a google home mini and I’ve been searching around online but I can’t find an answer to my question. So I have the recognition and sharing tab turned off on my google home but my family members say that they’re able to see my speaker and also cast media from their phones. They’re not connected to my google account in any way so I’m not sure why that’s possible? Is there a way to turn that off so that only I can cast to my speaker? My sister also has a mini in her room and it appears as an option on my google home app even though, again, our google accounts aren’t linked or connected in any way. Please help! Thanks.

Hi Miyabichama,

Glad you reached out.

I appreciate the details you shared. As long as there are other person connected to the same WiFi network where your Google Home Mini is connected, they will still be able to see your device available from their end. However, if you want to prevent anyone to cast media to your Google Home Mini, you can try to check these settings:

  1. Make sure that the mobile device or tablet is connected to the same Wi-Fi or signed into or linked to the same account as the Google Nest or Home, or Chromecast device.

  2. Open the Google Home app .
  3. Tap the Google Home device.
  4. At the top right, tap Settings Settings.
  5. Under General, tap Recognition and sharing.
  6. Turn off Let others control your cast media Off

Hope this helps.

Best,

Princess
