Routines: Set volume for multiple devices no longer working

Lee_R

I have a few routines that automatically change the volume on multiple google mini's around the home. For example the routine will contain:

"Set volume to 20% on Desk Speaker"
"Set volume to 10% on Bed Speaker"
"Set volume to 5% on Kitchen Speaker"
and so on...

Depending on the task I am doing, I give one command that changes all speakers and lighting and device power on and off. This includes night time routines for volume of sleep sounds ... which start on automatic timed routines... so that the volume only changes when I go to bed and give good night command etc.

This has been working for years. Now all of a sudden, the set volume commands are not working. It only changes the volume on the device running the routine like it ignores anything written after % in the command.

When using a verbal command to change the volume of a device, it will only change the volume on the device you are talking into, again disregarding the device name I actually requested to change.

For the last few days, when running the routines, on some occasions, it has asked something along the lines of "Do you want me to change he volume?" I say yes and it says "I can only set the volume between 1 and 100 percent" or something like that, and fails to do all requested volume changes. I repeat the routine request and it works fine. That is, until today. It hasn't asked me that question today.

I have noticed when running the routine verbally or triggering from the app, that the device (GHM) lights will flash the volume change for each one of the commands on the device actioning the routine only (aka the one device will change volume numerous times during the routine).

I have unplugged all GHM's (I don't have any other type of speaker device) for over a minute each, all at once whilst simultaneously shutting down my wifi network and NBN modem (two separate devices). So, essentially a full system power cycle was done and changed nothing.

I even tried changing the speaker names and adding a new routine with different trigger name etc obviously failed to fix the issue as I am here.

I did notice a new function in 'Actions' which wasn't there the last time I set up a routine. "Adjust Assistant Volume" I haven't used it, but it is only for the default device running the routine or the device you verbally trigger at the time.

Any advice would be appreciated.

I use IOS (iPhone and iPad Pro) and Android (generic telco phone).

*edit* I originally posted this two weeks ago (7th Jan) on the old system. Since then I have also removed and factory reset each GHM and added them back in, deleted the routines and put new ones in with different triggers/worded actions etc. Still, nothing works apart from the set time routines as they have selectable device that actions the routine.

My exact issue. It has been working for years but something must have changed recently to affect this. I also did the troubleshooting that you did and no luck.

Sorry it is happening to you too, but I am glad to know that I am not the only one it is happening too.

Same issue here. Same set up with night-time routine that lower the volume on all speakers that Stopped working.

First they said you can't change group volume, but I thought at least my routines will keep working because I change each speaker individually. But now it seems that doesn't work either. Only changing the volume on the first speaker, doing it multiple times as the number of commands that suppose to run for each speaker....

This is still happening today. No help from Google support. Have to manually hack it which works when it wants to, but never consistent.

Why lock this thread?? Just update us as to why the functionality was removed?? Something with Sonos maybe??

I've found a workaround. In the routine, you have to set the volume of EACH speaker manually... YET... the commands are different. The command that works for a single speaker doesn't work for speaker groups.

What worked for me was...

In the routine... Click "try adding your own"

Set Volume to 100% on SINGLE Speaker

set GROUP Speakers volume to 10

Note the exact wording. Using the 1st command with the group speakers...failed. why?? Goodness knows
