Speak has renamed itself - problem connecting to cloud

ValMc1

For some reason my speaker connected to my hub has changed it’s name. In the past when this has happened I have been able to change it back. Now it will not let me do it as it says there are problems connecting to the cloud, please try again later. This has been going on for over a week. Because I can’t change the name of the speaker, I am unable to ask for anything from YouTube music to be played as it says it doesn’t recognise the speaker. I can’t even delete the speaker, I just can’t do anything with it. I have tried a factory reset- no different, have done a factory reset on router but no different. Nothing works. Any suggestions please?

Hi ValMc1,

Thanks for posting and for being a step ahead of us.

I’m sorry for the trouble this has caused you, let me help you out. Create a new home structure, then, set up your Google Nest Hub to that new structure and see if it will make a difference.

Check these steps on how to create a new home.

  1. Open the Google Home app .
  2. Tap Add .
  3. Tap Create new home.

Best,

Juni

I have already tried creating a new Home structure and it didn't make any difference.

Hi folks,

@Juni, thanks for the help.

@ValMc1, That certainly hasn't been easy for you ― what Google Home/Nest speakers do you have?

Since creating a new Home structure didn't work, use a different phone then setup one of your Google Home/Nest devices to it. If the issue persists, connect your speaker to another phone's hotspot. You'll be needing 2 mobile devices for this to work. One phone is what you will use for the setup and the other is where you connect to via hotspot. If all else fails, follow the steps below:

  1. Make sure that the Google Assistant App and Google App are both installed and updated on your phone using the same email address as your Google Home app
  2. Forget WiFi on your iPhone
  3. Turn on Airplane mode
  4. Reboot phone and Google Home devices
  5. Once the phone is back on and still on Airplane mode, connect to WiFi
  6. Proceed with the setup

If above won't work, try these:

  1. Reset Google Home device
  2. Reboot phone and WiFi router. Wait for 5  minutes before turning on the WiFi router.
  3. Once the phone is back on, make sure Bluetooth is on, Location is on, mobile data is off, WiFi assist is off.
  4. Go to the phone's WiFi settings, look for Google Home device's temporary hotspot.
  5. Connect the phone to Google Home device's temporary hotspot.
  6. Open Google Home app and proceed with the set up.

Tell me how it goes.

Regards,

Dan
