Spotify on Google Home Mini Draining Phone Battery

iPhone 12 Pro running iOS 15.1

I link Spotify on my phone with my Google Home Mini to cast music and control through my app. Recently Spotify has been running in the background when music is playing on my Home Mini, even after closing the Spotify app. It’s never done this before, and even when I ask Google to play music vs using my phone, it’s still opening in the background on my phone. Any fixes on this?

I understand that this can be confusing but I definitely wanted to stop by and see how I could help.

Just wanted to double check to see if you were still needing help on this? If so, what troubleshooting steps have you tried? I would suggest reaching out to Spotify help or Apple as well as it doesn't seem like it's something that is fixable on our end.
