Transport gives car details when setting are set to public transport. Also not recieving notices

Ricepudding
Community Member

I just asked my Nest speakers (Max and mini) about heading to Tokyo. My settings are all for public transport, but the answers it is now giving is by car. I tried changing and changing back the settings in the app, but no effect.

Also, I am no longer receiving transport or route notices in the google home app. I still get for news stories when asked by speaker.

Hey Ricepudding,

That certainly hasn't been easy for you. Have you tried uninstalling and reinstalling your Google Home app?

Could you try checking if your place is update:

Make sure that the address under Your places shows the correct address.

Make sure the customer's mobile device is connected to the same Wi-Fi or linked to the same account as the speaker or display.

  1. Open the Google Home app.
  2. At the top-right, tap the account icon.

Verify that the Google account on screen is the one linked to the speaker or display. To switch accounts, tap the drop down arrow> choose another account or Add another account.

Then tap Assistant settings> You> Your Places> Home.

Make sure that the address is accurate. To change the address, tap the address to make the change.

Let us know how it goes.

Thanks,

Alex

Hey Ricepudding,

Checking back in — did the suggested steps above help?

Best,

Alex

Not really I've tried everything from removing phones registered with Google, uninstalling home and Google app, changing transport setting for 24hts to see if it's a delayed change. Nothing seems to work. It's as if the transport option is just ignored.

My devices know it's me by voice and camera recognition. It's definitely linked to the correct account

Hey Ricepudding,

Thanks for the update. Choose a preferred way of getting around

The Google Assistant provides traffic and commute information for the preferred travel method.

  1. Open the Google Home app.
  2. At the top right, tap your account> Assistant settings.
  3. Tap Transportation> Getting around.
  4. Choose a travel mode for getting to work.
  5. Choose a travel mode for getting to other places.

If the issue persists, try resetting your Google Home speakers.

Let us know how it goes.

Best,

Alex

As I hav said, I have already done this. All transport settings in assistant, be it to work or getting around are set to public transport. This is why I am complaining, because despite being clearly set in the assistant settings, Google when asked is still defaulting to car

Hey Ricepudding,

We appreciate all the steps that you did.

We'd like to check this further, could you please provide us the cast firmware version of your Google Nest devices? Also, please send a feedback report on your Google Home app or display with a brief description of what's happening. To ensure it will be captured, please verify that "Send device usage data and crash reports to Google" is turned on before you submit the feedback.  Once done, fill out the form.

Hey Ricepudding,

Checking back in — have you had the chance to send a feedback? Also, did you fill out the form?

Thanks,

Alex

I sent feedback, but your form keeps rejecting submission. I've tried on my phone and computer. Both had accurate information. I am wondering if it is because I am using a Japanese phone number.

Also, I keep trying to post my details here, but they keep being viewed as spam. I'm trying this one last time.

Google Max Hub system firmare is two nine  five zero seven one

Castfirmware is one dash five six dot two nine five zero seven one

Nest mini system is  two seven nine seven one six

Castfirmware is one dot five four dot two seven nine seven one six

Chromecast with google TV is 1 dot five six dot two nine two three nine four

My phone is an Oppo reno 3a.

Sorry for the unusual way of writing these numbers, but as I said, the post keeps being rejected otherwise.

Hey Ricepudding,

Could you try checking your Google Maps settings if it has the same transportation mode as your Nest devices. Check this guide for more information. Also, try using the same command on the Google Assistant on your phone.

Thanks,

Alex

I've tried this. The tab for transport isn't on my app. I've looked for screenshots to find it but it doesn't appear. I can only click the route option and select train or bus that way, but can find no permanent preferences tab. I suspect the updated app hasn't been rolled out on japan. Mine is showing as 11342.

Hi Ricepudding,

Yikes! Are you able to test it on your Google Assistant from your phone? If so, try changing the language on your phone and Google Home app to EN-US, to check if it will provide you the correct information.

Best,

Alex

I tried and mo change. I also tried using English United Kingdom and Japanese. Still mo change. The only way to get train directions is to orally request them

I strongly suspect the New transportation  mode in maps broke something in assistant, as this issue started around the time of the rollout. And I doubt it will be fixed until Google bother to give Japan the app, but God knows when that will be. Still haven't the app drawer on the max here.

This is really frustrating.

I've tried the feedback form on both my computer and phone, but it keeps asking me to refresh the page after I enter my information and refuses to submit. I wonder if it is because I'm using my Japanese phone number?
