Tv doesn't lower volume despite option turned on in settings

i have a sony kd x7500f tv and it used to lower volume when i speak to the nest hub 1st gen.  however, it doesn't do that now, even with the option turned on.    They are on the same wifi channel  and casting media from nest hub to tv is of no issue.   anyone can help on this?  

Tv comes with built-in chromcast.
