Hi,
I have found several threads on this issue, but all are closed without any solution.
I bought my Nest Hub Max several years ago, and set up the built-in Nest Cam with the then existing Nest app without any problems. When Google moved the camera setup to the Home app, I never followed and tried to reconfigure this way. Now, however, I wish to configure the app and it simply won’t work. As for all others, I get stuck at the step where the QR code is displayed on my Nest Hub screen, but the Home app just shows a spinning circle icon for a while and then I get the message ”Something went wrong, please try again”
Things I have tried:
Firmware version for the Nest Hub is 28.20250723.103.2100300
Home app version 4.5.56.3
Router: Sagemcom F(a)ST 5359 CHWU (Brand new, also tried with another older router)
Phone: Samsung S25 Ultra, Android 16, One UI 8.0.
I also have an old Huawei P30 Pro which I successfully used to configure the Nest Cam the very first time some years ago. Neither this phone works for configuration now. I have had this issue since November 2025 when I started trouble shooting.
Thankful for any help!

I can help, but my replies keep getting deleted.

Thanks for your post. I managed to read your suggested solution (to configure the cam with an older version of the Home app) before it was deleted. I do have an older phone bit unfortunately I updated the Home app before trying to use this one to configure. I guess the alternative would be to download an older app version through third part, but that could be a security risk and it shouldn’t be necessary when this seems to be a bug from Google since many others have the same issue.

I also read on the Google Home Users Group on Facebook (22nd October 2025) "Yep happened to me too - only way I could get it going again was to remove it from Google home, then FACTORY RESET the hub, then start Google home again and add the device - all original settings etc restored & working."

Hi Archibald,
Thank you for posting in the community. I understand you're getting stuck at the QR code step on your Nest Hub; it sounds like the Home app displays a spinning circle before eventually showing the 'Something went wrong' error. I appreciate the details you shared and the troubleshooting you've done so far. Help is here!

Same issue, please help me too

I'm currently facing the exact same issue, the Google Home app gets stuck in an endless spinner while the camera setup QR code is displayed on the Nest Hub Max and after a while fails with a "something went wrong message". My cell phone is a brand new Pixel 10 Pro XL but I also tried with an old Xiaomi device that produced the exact same error.

@charlie2alpha If your old Xiaomi device had the previous version of Google Home it might work. That's what I did and it worked on the first try.

Unfortunately it was updated to the latest version. But I'll give it a thought...

Old tablet even?

I tried your solution, found old versions on a well known site. Went with versions all the way back to 2020,l and got always the same error. This could be related to the Google Play Services as well but really Google is messing up its own device ecosystem and reducing its reliability to null.

That's a shame. It shouldn't be this difficult.
I looked up the version of Google Home on my Samsung Galaxy S9: 3.29.157.6

As the tittle says, I can't configure either of those features. The issue is described more or less by this user here in this thread . I've tried everything, the QR code scanner will never appear on the Google Home app in order to setup the Nest Cam and the Face Match procedure always ends with a "Cannot setup face match, Try again or skip?".
I've used my Google Pixel 10 Pro XL with the latest Google Home app but also tried with an old Xiaomi Mi 9T Pro just to rule out any weird device incompatibilies. I need help, factory resetting the Nest Hub Max has no effect, the problem remains.

I have exactly the same problems here in Germany with a nest hub max from france. I tried everything..... factory reset, creating a new home and adding the device again and again... face match setup doesn't work and also the nest cam setup hangs with the circle in loop

I'm also in Germany, interesting coincidence.

sounds interesting... the funny thing is a few days before I bought a new nest hub max and configured it without any problems in my home and removed the old nest hub max to move it to the home of my dad, today I did a factory reset for the old nest hub max and could not solve the problem with the cam.....

could you solve the problem? If you want we can get in contact

besorge dir irgendein android phone wo google home nicht ab werk installiert ist und man die möglichkeit hat eine uralte version z.b. aus 2023 zu installieren, damit konnte ich die nest hub max kamera endlich einrichten.. total lächerlich das ganze....

I can't "Set up Nest Cam" for Nest Hub Max in the Google Home app. A QRBarcode appears on the Nest Hub Max screen. In the Home app on my phone, it tries to do it for about thirty seconds and then gives a message - "Something went wrong. Please try again".
I have Google Home (not premium) with Gemini

@NTunukovic if you've got an old phone or tablet with a previous version of the Google Home app you can use that. That's how I set mine up.
03-14-2026 11:01 AM
actually I could set up the nest cam in the google home app. but not in a normal way.... I took an old samsung a50 android phone from my father, I've uninstalled the current google home app and took a very old google home app from 2023 and then I could set up the nest cam in the goolge home app....
shame on google that we have to do such workarounds for setting up the nest hub max camera in google home..... it's getting more worse for the smart home devices from google.... I'm sad about that if I think about it how much money I already spend.....

Hello everyone,
I am experiencing the same issue: at the step where I need to scan the QR code, the page never loads. I have tried all possible solutions without success, including using an older phone with a previous version of Google Home, but nothing works.
Clearing the cache and data does not help, and a factory reset is also ineffective. However, this device had been set up successfully before. Since resetting it, it has become impossible to reconfigure the Nest Cam on the Hub Max.
I hope a solution will be found soon. If anyone has any other suggestions, I would greatly appreciate it.
Thank you all.

Exact same issue here. One of the richest companies in the world can't help us get their own devices set up? What's going on here
