Using Google mini home in holiday let

Amanda88R
Community Member

We are wanting to set up a Google mini at our holiday let to control things like the lights heating etc. and for guests to use as a speaker if possible. But we want to be able to control what guests can change and what they can’t. Is this possible? If it is how do we go about this?

Google Home Mini and Google Nest Mini devices are not really designed to be used in this manner. They are personal devices you setup with your account, linking it to you, your data and other devices.

The only way you could achieve something like this is to:

  1. Setup the device
  2. Make sure voice match is turned off
  3. Make sure personal results is turned off

But we want to be able to control what guests can change and what they can’t

What specifically do you mean by this? Here are all the speaker settings you can change:

Hi so sorry for the delay I’ve been really poorly.

we are wanting to make it so they can do things like turn on and off smart lights and control the heating but not do things like delete devices/lights by accident. So I know there is something called guest mode would that do what I’m after?

Hey Amanda88R,

Thanks for stopping by on the Google Nest Community Forum.

Chiming in to ensure everything is covered here. Are the troubleshooting steps shared help? By the way, I appreciate @David_K for helping.

Let us know if you're still having issues with your device, and the community will be glad to help.

Hey Amanda88R,

No worries! I understand. I hope everything is fine. Moving forward, it is possible for your guest to use the speakers in controlling your smart devices in the house. I suggest you set it up on a different email (not your personal email) to avoid other people to see or know your personal details like contacts, and calendar events. For limitations on what they can and cannot do, there's a filter that you use but it depends if your preferred restriction is included.

Here are the links that might be helpful to you:

Hope this helps.
