Voice Command on Nest Products stopped working. Google assistant OK on phone.

I have used Google Nest Hub Max, Nest Hub and Nest Mini's to control my home for two years. Suddenly, voice commands which still register are not being actioned.

If I use my phone or watch, the same voice commands through google assistant are actioned. What makes it even weirder is on my nest devices with screens, I am able to use the home controls tab to activate all of the devices.

I have rebooted & factory reset all devices - including those I am controlling. I am at a loss and rely on these devices heavily to control all the blinds, lights, external taps, fans, air conditioning and TVs in the home.

What do I go next?

I'm watching this as I am having, and have been having the same issue for months now. The issue is sporadic where some days it works some days it doesn't but it is getting progressively worse.

Hi there!

Thanks for reaching out to our community.

I'm sorry to hear that the voice commands are not being executed on your Google Nest Hub Max, Nest Hub, and Nest Mini devices. Thank you for letting us know important information such as the same voice commands are working fine through Google Assistant on your phone and your watch. Also, thanks for your insight about the behavior on your Nest devices with screens. No worries, help is here.

Before I start further troubleshooting, let me ask you a few questions:

  • Are you using an Android or an iPhone to control your Google Nest devices?
  • Is your Google Home app updated?
  • Would you kindly confirm whether your Google Nest devices are linked to a 2.4 GHz or 5 GHz WiFi network?
  • Are your Google Nest devices connected to the same WiFi network as your mobile device?
  • Could you please check if there is something obstructing the microphone of the Google Nest devices?

In the meantime, please verify if your home address information is complete in your Google Home app settings: town name, street address, state, and zip code. Here are the instructions:

  • Open the Google Home app.
  • At the top right, tap your account.
  • Verify that the Google Account shown is the one linked to your Google Nest devices. If you find it is not the right account, you can switch accounts by tapping the triangle next to the Google account, then tap another account or “Add another account.”
  • Tap “Manage your Google account” and then “personal info.”
  • Under “Addresses,” tap Home or Work.
  • Enter your address.
  • Tap “Save.”

Thanks for your kind attention; I will be looking forward to your reply.

Best regards,

Virna
