Why Nest Hub doesn't support Portuguese (Brazil)

rewgoes
Community Member

What is the reason why Google Nest Hub is not available in Portuguese?

I've seen in other posts that you say the reason for that is because the device is not sold in Brazil. However, that is not a reasonable reason for that.

@Muddi @Dan_A @Azarco @Princesss
Take for example myself, I live in an English-speaking country, and generally I communicate with Google Assistant in English, however, it's not possible to ask Google Assistant to play a Brazilian song in English, it simply does not understand a single word.

That is why I need to communicate with it in Portuguese to get the correct Brazilian song that I want.

As a developer, I imagine that to allow Google Nest Hub to support Portuguese would be as easy as flipping a flag (a wall switch), as other similar products already support Portuguese. Unless it was badly developed.

So please, do enable Portuguese for all your products. Selling or not selling a product in one country should not be a reason for this decision in a globalized word.

As a Brazilian, I do feel this as some kind of discrimination, leaving an entire culture in the limbo, without much visibility or support from Google.

The same thing happens in Portugal (and Nest Hubs are being sold in major tech stores).

Even Vodafone managed to launch a set-top box in European Portuguese, something that the simplest google device doesn't do (nest mini).

While for Nest Hub, despite being sold out there, nothing exists, neither Portuguese nor Brazilian Portuguese. Google could do it, the most difficult part is done: There is both Europeian and Brazilian Portuguese enabled in Smartphones. So why?

And, as a matter of facto, why does Swiss Italian, spoken natively by only some 720 thousand people is supported, and Portuguese doesn't?

Hey folks,

Thanks for the post — we hear you. We're always looking for ways to improve and bring more features to different regions. Keep an eye out for news and updates.

Cheers,

Muddi

It'd be nice if you show us some evidence that those feddbacks are being heard, because I've never had any follow-up of the things I had submited before. So what's the point of continuing if one's never sure he's being heard anyway? Not a single suggestion/complaint I've made has been attended.

There are similar complaints back from 2021.

It's not like the device has to support a new language, or Google as to implement anything new, all your devices and phones use Google Assistant as a service (SaaS), so it's just a matter of allowing Nest Hub to use Google Assistant in Portuguese.

We are not asking too much, really, it would take 5 minutes of a person inside Google with the right privileges to do so.

Please, just do it!

Without it, it looks like that the entire Portuguese culture and language has no value to Google.

Yes, please this post open to see how many people is waiting for this, and how many Portuguese speakers Google is silencing.

Also, please, simply enable Português on Google Assistant for all your devices.

@rewgoes Join and share this group on Facebook: Google Nest em Português (PT-PT e PT-BR), something must be done to try to wake up Google attention on this topic.

Hey folks,

Sorry for the delays. Unlike Nest Minis, the Google Nest displays are not officially supported in Brazil, and that's the reason why the Portuguese language is not available.

We value all your feedback, and rest assured that the team is working hard to add more features to the Google Home and Nest devices. If you're having issues sending feedback, please make sure to follow the steps at this link.

We know this is not the best answer that you're looking for, but let us know if you still have other questions; otherwise, I'll be locking this after 24 hours.

Cheers,

Muddi

I do have a non-answered question: To whom or to what team, specifically, have these questions been forward?

Give us a phone number or an email adress. Feedback funtion doesn't do anything at all.

Besides, You said, "unlike Nest Minis, the Google Nest displays are not officially supported in Brazil", but if that's the sole reason why in Portugal is a big Provider like Vodafone able to launch a STB with Google Assistant, not only in Portuguese, but even in European Portuguese, while Google's official store doesn't sell any smart speaker, like the Google Nest Mini?

See the incoherence in this statement? Google had to give access to Google Assistance in PT-PT for the STB manufacturer, but apparently Google doesn't support their own devices in Portugal. Just how?

Mudi,

They are not officially supported in Brazil because the Portuguese language is not available.

The question is why? As we have support on the mini devices. Is there any difference on the operating system that justify one device support and other don't?
We have already tried to send feedback for this case many times and for years.
It's possible to give us a reasonable answer to this or a forecast of when the portuguese languanage wil be available on google nest displays?

Hey folks,

Sorry for the delays. I understand your eagerness to have Portuguese (Brazil) language available on the Nest Hub. Unfortunately, we do not have any information to share regarding its availability at this time. However, please know that we appreciate your feedback, and our team is continuously exploring ways to add more supported languages and features to the Nest Hub in the future.

Cheers,

Muddi

Do realize this: besides those people complaining here about this, theres countless other Portuguese speakers in Portugal and Brazil who doesn't speak English for which they can't even understand and interact with this community nor can they send feedback, (by not being able to command it in English).

Thanks,

It's possible to give us a forecast about when this feature wil be available?

It's really disheartening to have such a useful device and not be able to talk to it in my native language. Since in other devices like Nest mini, audio, and smartphone it works perfectly, albeit limited.

Unfortunately, Google doesn't care about feedbacks. We have Portuguese language on Nest mini. What's the difference to bring it to Nest display? I know that google needs to make sure the writing is perfect, but It's shameful.

Google has Nest display for years and still no supporting Portuguese language. It's not gonna change.

This kind of thing that make me to think to change to Alexa.

I just don't understand why nest mini supports portuguese (brazil) and nest hub and hub max donesn't support.
