Why cant NEST and MINI make a speaker group?

  • I cannot get my nest and nest mini to work as a speaker group. Initially they linked as a group but did not seem to recognise each other and would not play together. This question has been asked before but you provided no answer? How is the technical bar set so low at GOOGLE? It literally is a basic function. Any answer other than reboot and turn off and on again?

It may be because of the firmware update issues or due to different models. Maybe try resetting the devices to default or check if the devices are compatible to play together.

Hi WhyWhy99,

This is not the experience we want you to have; let me help you. A few questions: aside from your Nest Mini, which Nest speakers are we working with? When did your issue begin? Were there any recent changes made?

It would help a lot if you could do a sequential reboot first:

  1. Unplug the power cord of your router, followed by your Nest speakers.
  2. Plug them back in after 3 minutes.
  3. Restarting your phone might also help.
  4. Make sure all devices are on the same Wi-Fi network. See this link on how to.

If the issue persists, you can revert your Nest devices back to its default settings by doing a factory reset. See this guide. Once done, recreate a speaker group and tell us how it goes.

Thanks for helping, Zak!

Best,

Dan

Dan are you a bot? I clearly said I don't want to hear a reboot answer, that's the answer for every problem with Google speakers. I moved the NEST to another room linked it the functioning stereo pair of NEST MINIS, the group formed but can not play as a group. I think its poor firmware, poor design planning, and worse 0 customer support. This question has been asked by others several times by others. So?

Hey there,

Apologies for the delay. I want to confirm if, within your speaker group, there is a speaker pair. How many speakers in total are in the speaker group? Also, have you tried doing the reset? How was it?

Since a stereo pair, even when added to the group, cannot be played, I suggest that you remove your two Nest Minis from the pair feature and recreate the speaker group. Tell me how it goes.

Regards,

Dan

Hello again,

I wanted to follow up and see if you are still in need of any help. Have you had the chance to try the suggestion above? If yes, how is it?

Best regards,

Dan
