Windows Chrome casting to Nest Audio

mars2
Community Member

I have multiple Google Home Mini's around the house and love casting from my Windows PC's Chrome browser to the Google Home Mini's.

I recently bought a Google Nest Audio hoping it could do the same thing but with a louder crisper volume.

Can anyone confirm that this is not possible, or is it something with my settings...

Thanks!

Hey there,

I understand that this issue can be confusing but I definitely wanted to stop by and see how I could help.

Just wanted to double check to see if you were still needing help on this? If so, what troubleshooting steps have you tried?

Please let me know.

Best regards,

Hi Sofaires, GarrettDS,

Thanks for the replies!

https://support.google.com/googlenest/answer/7194413?hl=en

I used to be able to do what was in this link/guide above; namely cast whatever audio is playing on windows chrome browser to any google home mini.  Recently, it looks like my/the ability to cast audio away only from windows chrome browser was taken away/not working and will now only allow me to audio+video to chromecast dongles that are plugged into a TV/monitor.  I bought a nest audio expecting to have the feature to cast audio, but it looks like neither casting to google home mini or nest audio is working now.  Both google home mini and nest audio are fine; if i go to spotify app on my phone (for example), can still have the option to cast audio from the phone spotify app; just not from windows chrome browser anymore.  I'm just not sure if this is a problem on my computer's end or if this is true for everyone.

Heya mars2,

Just to confirm, you are supposed to be able to cast from Google Chrome to those devices. Let me just ask you a few questions to narrow down the issue:

  • What version of the Google Home app are you using?
  • What version of Google Chrome are you using?
  • Are you able to cast to these two devices from another source, such as a phone or tablet?
  • Are you connected to the same network band? Either 2.4GHz or 5GHz

Then, to be safe, here are some troubleshooting steps for when you cannot find a casting destination. Note that this article mostly applies to Chromecast devices, so not everything will apply.

Hi! Sorry for late reply.  I think you can close this case because it seems like this behavior is intentional.  Answers below to your troubleshooting questions:

Given that, here are the software versions:

-IOS Google Home App: 2.46.106

-Windows OS Chrome Browser: Version 96.0.4664.45 (Official Build) (64-bit)

-Google Nest Router Model: H2D

-Google Nest Router Software Version: 13729.57.27

-I can't audio cast from Windows OS -> Chrome Browser to any audio device

-I can stream video from Windows OS -> Chrome Browser to chromecast device

-I can stream Spotify music from Windows OS -> Spotify App to any audio device

-I can't stream locally loaded music from Windows OS -> Spotify App to any audio device.

-I can't stream Spotify music from Windows OS -> Chrome Browser -> Spotify website to any audio device.

-I can stream Spotify music from iPhone iOS -> Spotify app to any audio device.

-I can't stream locally loaded music from iPhone iOS -> Spotify app to any audio device.

From this, it seems clear that some recent update made it not possible to stream audio from Windows OS / Chrome browser to google home mini / nest audio.

-They are connected to the same network because all the devices (Windows Computer, iPhone, Google Home Mini, Google Nest Audio) are are able to see each other and stream given the content (which i assume is content that Google deems acceptable to be cast????).

Thanks,

*Both google home mini and nest audio **hardware** are fine.  (as in they function normally if not considering the casting audio from windows chrome browser)
