Wrong weather location

Brysonkoehler
Community Member

Google keeps closing this topic without ensuring it's actually solved, so I'm reposting the problem from someone else a few weeks ago that describes my problem, however the uninstall/reinstall "solution" doesn't work for me.

Just recently ( a week or so) my Google Home (1st Gen and 2 minis) devices have been giving me the weather location of the wrong location.

Some background, I have 3 locations in my google home App.

Location A
Location B
Location C

A is a vacation home.  B is primary residence.  C is my parents' house.  The issue is all the devices are now giving the weather based on Location A, no matter where the devices is assigned in the App.  If I ask the device what's the address, it gives the proper address for where I have set the location.  I even attempted creating a new location that would show up alphabetically before Location A just incase a programmer made a stupid mistake, moved my device to that location and it still gives the weather for location A.

If I change the address for Location A to be the address of Location B, then the devices in Location B provide me with the correct weather.  However this will break the weather on Location A.

I think your idea around caching has some serious merit. It's almost like Google is caching the account vs the device ID. Although, for me home A was setup for 18 months before home B was and Google is reporting the weather for home B inside of home A. I would have thought home B would be reporting home A.

At any rate, the more we all continue to share our insights, the more likely we are to be able to help Google resolve the bug.

This was also the case for me. I was getting weather on the new house from the old house. I wonder if it's always the newest house that gets reported. To every problematic device.

Having already deleted the newer home, I wonder if I scrap the old home too and set it up again if it would work for me. That would be massively inconvenient, but it might... ya know... Make my devices work.

Nope.  I have set a new home since this problem started and it still reports the weather for the previous home.

FYI, this problem is fixed as far as I can tell.  Don't know if there is a new variant but I have not had the issue in months since it was apparently dealt with.

Seems to be better but am still experiencing some intermittent problems where the device home address needs to be updated on each device in the home manually. Sometimes it syncs or prompts with the ‘. This device has a different address’ prompt, other time’s it needs manually setting.

I change my home location frequently and find needing to update the device, personal profile addresses independently a pain. Also, not being able to set the address to my current gps location is annoying 😀

Hi Delboy,

Thanks for responding.

Have you already updated your home address on your Google Maps app? Let's make sure that the address set there is also the same with the address on the device address settings of the Google Home app.

Let me know how it goes.

Best,

Princess

Location updates are still not consistently applied across all the Google services.

I change my location weekly and over the past 2+ years have found the following to be the most reliable although not all the time.

on arrival at my new location I :-

a) Set the Google Hub Max device address using the iOS app.
b) Using my profile picture in Google Home on iIS I set my Home address to the new location.
c) Repeat step ‘c’ for my partner’s account on her iOS device.

in most cases this then updates the two Google Nest hubs I have, Google maps and any other services I use.
However just this weekend I encountered problems with my partner’s profile, which as I write this refuses to to correctly respond to her request to the hub max for the current weather. Her iOS profile has the correct address in Google Home, the hub max recognises her voice correctly but provides weather information for our previous location.

Hi everyone,

Thanks for posting in the Community.

We just want to check if you are still experiencing the same issue as other confirmed that it's already working on their end.

For others who got their speakers working, can you please share the cast firmware versions of your Google Nest speakers? Same with others who are still experiencing the same thing, kindly share its cast firmware version for comparison.

To check the firmware version:

  1. Make sure the mobile device is connected to the same Wi-Fi or linked to the same account as the Google Nest or Home device.
  2. Open the Google Home app .
  3. Tap the device card of the preferred speaker or display.
  4. At the top-right, tap Settings Settings and then Device information.
  5. Under Technical information, find Cast firmware:X.XXX.XXXXX.

Cast firmware:

Nest Hub - 1.56.295071

Nest mini x 2 - 1.56.291758

All reporting incorrect weather and distance from home for my partner but reporting correctly for myself.

As stated previously Google reports a previous address for my partner in response to ‘hey google where am i’ BUT reports her correct home address when asked ‘what is my home address’.

Princess,

I think it is clear from the numerous posts to this thread that the issue remains for some of us.

I have applied all the’fixes’ documented in this thread and the problem persists.

Hi Delboy,

Thanks for responding.

We'd be happy to take a look into this for you. Please fill up this form with all the needed information then let me know once done.

Best,

Princess

Hi In Home app go to “Settings” - “General”  - “Privacy”  - SELECT. “Remove saved wifi and home address”,

you’ll get warnings etc but proceed, then check address again in “Home” app, make sure correct or add it.
Then test on nest or speaker, worked for me , correct location on all speakers for Weather again.  Hope it sticks.

Thank you, this solved it for me. Searched the internet forever to get this fix haha.

I tried this before without success. But I just did it again. I unplugged and unplugged my Hub and rebooted and it seems to have worked this time!

As of this morning, this seems to be working for me. I don't know if it just took a week for the cache to bust, or if it was actually fixed, though.

Just saw this and tried it myself. Its WORKING!

Hi,

I have a regular Google hub in my room that displays the correct time and location for weather, and I just purchased a new Hub Max for the living room and it chose to display the time and weather location for a completely different city. I think while setting it up it got confused with my street name in my address and it thought that was the city!!

I cannot change it and I have tried everything seen previously... Factory reset, change the address in my location on the app, and nothing has worked! Please help! This is extremely frustrating...

I have the same issue and did a post on it yesterday.  I've had my Nest Hub Max for awhile and it was working great until a month or so ago.  The same issue occurs on my mini's.  No issue with my phone on or off my wife network.  I've seen others post with the same issue so I think it is a software issue from an update.

Same here. Can’t get the time to change no matter what I try. Very frustrating!!

There's another thread on this that mentions that Google has identified a bug and is working on it.

I just changed my time zone, updated both my profile and hub max home addresses and 24hrs later the Hub Max is still reporting the old Timezone.

my guess is that now my partner is the ‘owner’ of the hub max and we have had home address issues with her account previously the hub max is reporting her locations time (which is in line with consistently  incorrect reporting of weather for her account) and not the registered hub max’s home address.

Hub Max with an incorrect time is now useless from a calendar perspective 😒

There is another thread going for this now.  Google posted they had identified a bug and are working on it.

is there a link to this other thread? May you please share?

I think he meant this thread, as Google responded earlier in this thread to acknowledge the problem. We all should continue to keep this thread alive as we are doing with everything we are seeing to help them solve it and ensure it gets the right attention.

We're on the right track!

Hey there,
Just wanted to jump in here to check to see if everyone is able to get this working on their end as I have seen a few success stories so far. Please let us know if you have any other questions or concerns as I will be locking this in 24 hours.

Have a great day.

I am good now!  Thanks to the Google folks getting this fixed!

Hey folks,
It looks like we have come to a solution so I'm going to be locking this thread. If you have any other concerns or questions, please feel free to create a new thread.

I just discovered an interesting oddity to this situation on my end ... My Girlfriend asked for the weather today and it told her the proper location weather (Toronto), but when I asked it still responded my old address (Mississauga).

I have replaced my address in almost every conceivable Google-referenced location, and a few supposedly non Google services as well.

Such as My address fields for Home locations, removing references to my former home in Mississauga. Clearing recently tracked trip data to Mississauga, even making sure the apps WAZE, Transit, Uber, and Lyft was actively picking up my current location in Toronto, and that my "Home" address was updated in each of them as well.

I'm wondering if I need to do something like remove myself from the Nest devices/Home, and re-subscribe myself from an invite from her.

Beware if you decide to remove yourself from the hub, I did this and my partner became the owner on my max hub which means there are some functions I can no longer perform.

Looks like I will need to factory reset, which is a real pain.

... I had used location tracking feature on a website on an old laptop of mine a week+ ago on a trip from out of town and into Mississauga (not my current home, no longer where my Google Home and Nest Mini are located and addressed). But that laptop has since been offline and off, I find it hard to imagine that that one trip would have tricked the whole Google ecosystem to think i'm still in Mississauga when every one of my other devices and apps say otherwise and are actively updating that database.

The issue is a software bug that Google has identified and is working on.  We won't be able to fix this ourselves.  I would sit tight and wait for the update.  You can work around it by asking for the weather for your specific location until then.

As noted previously this affects several Google Home functions, not only the weather.

with three Google hubs in the house we have become dependent on several functions (alarms, calendars etc) which are totally useless when this’bug’ occurs.

waiting patiently for Google to fix this issue which I personally reported nearly two years ago; is not really an acceptable solution.

All was well with us until last week now when we ask Hey Google what’s the weather? We get the weather for Knoxville Tennessee and we live in Ohio!

Hi everyone,

Thanks for posting.

I appreciate everyone who shared some steps they tried to resolve this.

Has anyone tried checking the home address set on your Google Maps? Also, let's try this step too:

  1. Open the Google Home app .
  2. At the top, make sure that your home name is listed. If needed, tap the name to change your home.
  3. Tap Settings and then Home information and then Home address.
  4. Tap Edit and then Enter your address and then Next.
  5. Drag the map so that the pin is on your home and tap Done.

Note: When you change the home address, it will only affect the devices in the home you selected. You can edit or delete this address at any time.

Let me know how it goes.

Best,

Princess
