audio casting fails from Android (12) phone to Nest Mini (Ed. 2)

I used the Google Home app to cast music to my Nest Mini (over wifi). I am playing audio media with VLC app on Android. The Wifi connection is made: Google Home app says it is casting and the Nest Mini makes a sound that it received the connection. Then the sound goes off on my phone, so it thinks it is casting, but no sound is coming out of the Nest Mini. (I can adjust the volume from the Home app, but there is still no sound.) I searched the net and this forum and checked the adjustments (like Google Play Services having microphone permission). If I switch to bluetooth, I can play sound from my phone, but not through wifi with Home. (I checked to make sure that both Nest and phone are on the same wifi band.)

I take it back. Didn't work. Restarting home required turning on Bluetooth, so music was playing through Bluetooth (Android function) but not casting over WiFi. When I turn off Bluetooth, Home offers to cast to the Nest mini, but then says "not playing" when I attempt to cast. I could not uncheck the "recommended answer" box but it is now misleading.

I found a general solution. VLC, Amazon Music (and presumably other music players) have their own casting option. In VLC it is Playback:Rendering. In Amazon Music, it is a TV-like rectangle icon with WiFi radiation icon superimposed. These will cast to the Nest Mini without Google Home involved. However, Google Home is then useful for controlling the volume on the speaker. It was a long way to get here, but I'm glad to have found the correct solution.

Thanks. Clearing cache and data from Google home did the trick.

EDIT: did not work. No answer yet.

I was wrong. This didn't work.
