automation won't play a specific iHeartRadio live station

I have multiple automations already set up for playing music through iHeartRadio.

There is one station I cannot get my Home Mini to play:

Christmas Jazz Live Station (try not to laugh).

I noticed that certain stations need different commands in the automations.

1. Play and control media - Play iHeartCountry Christmas on iHeartRadio

2. Custom command - Play iHeartChristmas Rock on iHeartRadio

I tried both with the Jazz station and neither work.  Instead, some random jazz playlist plays.

I tried using the weblink associated with this channel, but I can't find a way for Google Home to recognize and play from this weblink.

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Hi Swsquish,

Thank you for reaching out to our community.

I’m sorry to hear that you can’t play Christmas Jazz Live Station on your Google Home Mini using the iHeartRadio app. No worries; help is here.

Before I start further troubleshooting, let me ask you a few questions:

  • Is the Google Home app up to date?
  • Is iHeartRadio up to date?
  • Have you verified if there has been an update on the radio station setup on your automation?
  • Are you using a personal or household routine?
  • Is your radio station a premium service, or is it a local radio station?
  • Have there been any recent changes to your home environment, changes in the Wi-Fi network, or recent outages?
  • Have you set your time zone and location correctly?
  • Are you located in the United States or Canada?

If your speaker or display doesn't play the radio station you requested, try these steps:

  • Ask for the station in a different way. For example, if the name didn't work, try the call sign or frequency.
  • Add more specific information, such as "on [radio service]," to your request.
  • When you use the frequency, add the name of a nearby city. For example: "Hey Google, play 101.9 FM LA."

If these steps don't resolve the inconvenience, please visit our guide on Listen to radio on your Google Nest speaker or display; you'll find additional troubleshooting tips there.

Please let me know how it goes.

Best regards,

Virna

tried all that.  It's a Personal Routine.  I have 13 setup the same way and they all work, different stations every hour of the day, played through iHeartRadio.

The automation simply will not recognize this SPECIFIC station on iHeartRadio.   It plays Jazz playlists and all other kinds of jazz related things, just not this live radio station.

Is there a way to do this another way.  Maybe using the URL: https://www.iheart.com/live/christmas-jazz-7251/

I even tried the public beta script editor.  I tried this code, but it also failed:

metadata:
name: Daily Streaming at 6:30 PM
description: Plays a streaming web link every day at 6:30 PM

automations:
- starters:
- type: time.schedule
at: "18:30:00"
actions:
- type: assistant.command.OkGoogle
devices: Foyer Speaker - Foyer
okGoogle: Play https://www.iheart.com/live/christmas-jazz-7251/

This is what I got back from iHeartRadio tech support"

"it appears Christmas Jazz is a digital station, and is not available to stream via a smart speaker. Digital stations can only be listened to on the iHeart app or website only."

But is there a way to stream it via the website link I've listed: https://www.iheart.com/live/christmas-jazz-7251/

So the question is how can you stream from a website through your Google Speaker?

Hi Swsquish,

Thank you for sharing with us that iHeartRadio tech support informed you that Christmas Jazz is a digital station and is not available to stream via a smart speaker, and it can be listened to only on the iHeart app or website. But it is great to hear there is another option to listen to the Christmas jazz radio station.

Regarding your question about how you can stream from a website through your Google Speaker, it is my pleasure to share with you the instructions to do it. Please follow the next steps:

  1. In your Chrome browser, open the website with the media you want to play.
  2. Go to the top right corner of the web page, and click on the 3 dots column, and it will display a menu. Scroll down the menu until you find the option “cast, save, and share.”
  3. Then select the option “Cast.”
  4. Choose the speaker or display you want to use.
  5. Start the media on the website. It'll play on your selected speaker or display.

You can also use voice commands to control the volume and stop casting. Here is an article where you can find more information: Cast media from Chrome to your Google Nest speaker or display

Please let me know how it goes,

Best regards,

Virna
