2nd gen. Chromecast problem

Dalgal
Community Member

I've used this Chromecast for years to stream from my tablet and phone mostly prime videos.  Never a problem with buffering or dropping/screen going black.  Oct 9th I subscribed to Sling TV specifically to watch the baseball playoffs and World series.  At the 3 hour mark of streaming a game the TV screen goes black.  When I try to restart, the phone still thinks casting is happening.  I stop the casting, then cast again.  Now the picture is fuzzy and buffering every 10 seconds, never clears up.  At the same time I opened Sling on my tablet and watched the remainder of the game.  I thought initially the problem was with Sling but I can watch the entire game on the tablet, but it drops at 3 hours on the TV cast.  I've reset the router, rebooted Chromecast by unplugging it.  What do I need to check next?  Could the Chromecast be dying, it does feel warm?

Hi  Dalgal,

Thank you for taking an interest in our community. I’m sorry to hear that your Google Chromecast 2nd Generations isn’t working as you expected casting media. So don’t worry; it’s a pleasure to assist you.

I am grateful for your time and effort in completing these troubleshooting steps described in the post. So let's explore more tips.

  • Do you experience the same behavior with another app streaming in your Chromecast?
  • Have you tried to perform a factory reset? If not, please follow the steps below in this article: How to factory reset your Chromecast.

I'll look forward to your response; any additional details you can provide will be helpful.

Regards,

Daniel

Daniel,

Thanks for help here!

I have reset the chromecast and I just finished trying to determine if the problem happens with other apps.  I was able to cast for 4 hours from Amazon prime video a Live program with no problems of it dropping or buffering.  What I haven't done is try to cast for 3+ hours something besides baseball playoffs and the world series from the Sling app.  Is there something about a big event/program that would be more prone to dropping?  My TV is vintage 2013, Vizio, and it's only semi-smart.  No ability to add more apps and some of the apps really aren't functional.  I think this TV was at the early stage of smart technology.

I did also reset the router.

Hey Dalgal,

Thank you so much for keeping me updated. Let’s try to explore more tips.

  • Try to use your Chromecast with another TV.
  • If you have the possibility, try to use your Chromecast near your WiFi router.
  • Make sure that your device is connected to the same wifi network.
  • Ensure that your streaming app is up to date.

Let me know how it goes.

Regards,

Daniel

Daniel,

I don't have another tv.

The cc is 10ft from the router.

The same network is used and the app is current.

This afternoon I was able to cast from Sling a live program for 4 hours and the chromecast never dropped 9r buffered.

What's special about the baseball playoffs and World series?

Hey Dalgal,

I appreciate you staying informed with me and for having done the previous troubleshooting steps above the post.

It seems like the problem might be specific to the Sling TV app, unlike the Google Chromecast, which can cast other streaming services. I recommend reaching out to the Sling TV app. They'll be able to provide the most accurate advice on how to get the app working properly again.

Best regards,

Daniel

Ok, thanks.
