4k Streamer : screensaver not showing any dates ....

the screensaver is not showing any date when the time zone is GMT -/+0.  it happens on Google Photos taken in Agadir 2018 with a Huawei 6P (Google Version), on Google Photos taken on Canary Islands 2024/25 with a Pixel 8 Pro .... Google Photos is always showing the correct location and the correct time stamp .... I could see the error as well on the former chromecast releases and now on latest streamer releases ... all devices are running the latest releases at the time where the photos were taken... and correct date is shown on all other time zones (at least where I was traveling to)... there is a simple way to proof this error in the streamer software independent of the language settings of all involved devices : set one photo to GMT +1 ... and instantly the date will be shown ...😃

Hi @myTRS,

Thanks for posting in the community. I'm sorry to hear that your Google TV Streamer 4K has stopped showing dates and locations for your photos when using the screensaver. It appears to happen specifically when the time zone is set to GMT +/-0 (such as in Agadir or the Canary Islands), and it was also a problem on older Chromecast models. I understand how concerning this must be, as you have checked the time and locations in the Google Photos settings, but the issue persists. I appreciate the detailed information you've shared and your troubleshooting efforts. No worries, let's work together to get this resolved. To better support you, I have a few questions:

  • Does this issue occur only at a specific address? If so, have you noticed this with other addresses using the same time zone?
  • Is the address on the Home structure the same as the address under "Your places" on the Google Home app settings?

Please let me know the answer to these questions.

Cheers,
Jonathan

Hi Jonathan,

I'm Theo.

It happens always when the photo is taken in the time zone GMT 0. It has nothing to do with the location where the photo is taken nor the device (mobile phone, camera,...). The time zone GMT 0 is the trigger in the ambient screen saver not showing the date of the picture.

Regarding Google streaming devices : all devices are showing the error since years ... 4k or not doesn't matter. My devices are located in Switzerland (GMT+1 with DST) .... running in my home network, permanently online, running the latest SW releases ... English as preferred language ....

About the locations where GMT 0 is in use : Agadir in Morocco is very special because the are introducing DST during Ramadan for one month (during my holidays in 2018) .... So some photos are showing the date in ambient screen saver other not .... If I change the time zone in Google Photos manually the date will appear instantly ... Same story on Canary Islands, they run UTC+0 during European winter time and UTC+1 during summer ... (prefered holiday places).

I have no more examples to show because UTC 0 is used in Western Europe only during winter time ....

And last but not least I had a long chat with Google supporter Joe on Feb.9. 12:28 AM Pacific Time .... so Google knows about the issue ...

Cheers ,

Theo
