New Google TV Streamer; 'ok google, stop casting' does not work

Setup a new Google TV Streamer; works fine. Joined my Google Home fine. Can cast from my device to the TV. Can see casting status in Google Home app. Can stop casting in Google Home app. All devices on same Wifi network and band.

CANNOT ask Google Home mini or Google Home device (or even Googe Assistant on Samsung phone) to 'stop casting' -- they respond with 'stopping living room tv3' (correct device name) but it does NOT stop casting.

Have restarted everything, including Wifi router. No effect. Have been through all the settings...nothign seems to have any effect. Apps and streamer are all updated to latest release.

Ideas?

Hi @mike3s

Thanks for reaching out to the community! I understand you're experiencing an issue when requesting to stop a cast on your Google TV Streamer using your Samsung phone or Google Home device. Even though it appears to be 'stopping Living Room TV3,' the stream continues. I know how important it is for you that your devices should be working as expected, and I appreciate the troubleshooting steps you’ve already taken. Don’t worry, help is here!

To better assist you, I’d like to gather a bit more information:

  • How far away are your phone and speaker from the Google TV Streamer when you give the 'stop casting' command?
  • Is your Google Home app up to date? If you're unsure. Here’s a helpful article about how to Update the Google Home app.
  • What is the firmware version of your speaker? You can use this Google Help Center article as a reference: Find your device’s firmware version.
  • Is your smartphone's operating system up to date?
  • What is the typical acoustic environment surrounding the streamer (e.g., noisy, normal conversational volume, or quiet)?
  •  Are your speaker, streamer, and mobile device connected to a 2.4 GHz or 5 GHz Wi-Fi network?
  • Are your speaker and Google TV Streamer assigned to the same 'Home' in the Google Home app?

Any additional details you can provide will be very helpful.

Regards,

Beula

Everything is in the living room (with good 5GHz wifi signal according to the wifi hub). Same locations as with the previous Chromecast (Gen 1) that works fine.

Home app is up to date (4.9.51.0).

Home mini is up to date (3.77.510748).

Samsung phone is up to date (S22, One UI 8.0, Android version 16/ security patch level Jan 1, 2026, Google Play system July 1, 2025).

Quiet living room...the speaker hears the command to stop casting Living Room TV 3, echoes the command back: 'stopping Living Room TV 3', and does nothing.

5 GHz network, good signal strength confirmed by wifi hub.

Only have the one 'Home', and everything is in it.

Can't seem to use voice commands to the Home mini to control the TV Streamer.

Hi @mike3s

Thank you for the update and the detailed information. To begin troubleshooting, please try the following steps:

  •   Power Cycle Your Devices.
    • Reboot your speaker: Disconnect the power cable from your device > wait 30 seconds > and then reconnect it.
    • Reset your Google TV Streamer: Unplug the power cable from the streaming device > leave it unplugged for one full minute > plug the cable back into the device.
  • Verify Voice Recognition.
    • Test the hotword: Say "Hey Google" to ensure the device recognizes the wake word.
    • Confirm understanding: Ask your Assistant a question, then say, "Hey Google, repeat the question" to verify it heard you correctly.
    • If it still isn't recognizing the question, try speaking slower or testing a different command.

Adjust your device's hotword sensitivity. You can use this Google Help Center article as a reference: Adjust how sensitive Google Assistant is to 'Hey Google'.

Keep me posted.

Regards,

Beula
