ALTERNATE DESIGN FOR A GOOGLE TV REMOTE FOR A PARKINSONS SUFFERER

My father is a Parkinson's suferer. His symptoms include almost total loss of speech and hand tremors that can be severe in the remaining hand that he can use.  The design of the google tv remote is poorly shaped for him to lay on a table flat and operate,  Also the buttons are too small for him to correctly select. is there an alternate device?  A smart phone is definitely not an option for him and the voice activation is also out.  Wondered about a large button universal control but I assume theres IP on this one that you wont wish to 'share'!

Considering the aging population and I assume you would wish to keep market share of this, it might be worthwhile looking into.  Design doesn't always need to be sleek but it does need to be servicable.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated or even if this could just get passed up the food chain!

Hello @BALMYPALMY ,

Thank you for posting in the community and for raising a crucial and important point regarding accessibility. I am truly sorry to hear about the difficulties your father is experiencing due to his Parkinson's symptoms; I understand how important it is to have a product that can help you with different situations.

Please be assured that your feedback about the need for more accessible designs for the aging population and users with motor skill impairments is extremely valuable. I will ensure your comments are passed directly to our product and design teams.

I also want to invite you to send your feedback in the same way through the Google Home app. This is the best way to send suggestions or report issues directly to the development team.

Here is how to do it:

  1. Open the Google Home app on your phone or tablet.
  2. In the top-right corner, tap your profile picture or initial.
  3. Scroll down and select Help & feedback.
  4. Tap Send feedback at the bottom of the screen.
  5. If prompted, select the specific Google device the feedback is about (if applicable).
  6. In the text box, describe the issue you are experiencing or the suggestion you would like to make. The more detail you include, the better.

Your input is invaluable, and we greatly appreciate you taking the time to help us improve the experience for our diverse user base.

Regards,

Kevin

Have designed a new device shape myself - using one of those baby handprint impression kits. Instead of a baby hand I imprressed the remote into it. Now it sits flat.  So i've basically designed a caddy to rest the existing remote in.  Re the buttons that cannot be used, I have added bluetack to the offending button and that so far seems to be doing the trick. Would be good to be able to post a pic of it here to show my remedy.
