Ambient Mode Glitching

Madman25b

Hello! Seem to have a little bit of a dilemma as when the Chromecast uncasts or reboots it doesn't pull the configured Ambient Mode photos which is configured to be a Google Photos album.

Instead it selects Art Gallery; however if I go into the settings and sit on the Ambient settings page which already has the correct settings and has no changes - then it will shift to the correct display mode of ambient pictures which are populated using Google Photos.

Troubleshooting Steps:

  • Reboot Cellular device
  • Reboot Chromecast from Google Home
  • Power Cycle Chromecast by disconnecting power source
  • Factory Reset the Chromecast and set back up from scratch
  • Confirmed that I'm still able to reproduce the issue before and after the Factory Reset

Any way to try and correct the problem short of either purchasing a replacement (not all that worth it since the casting functionality still works and is not an issue), or upgrading to a different television that incorporates Google TV?

Also, the answer from a previous thread that it will do this for a few seconds than display correctly is not an acceptable answer - as this is not the same behavior and does not self-correct after a period of time - I have to go back into the settings and either sit on the Ambient Mode settings or go in and unselect the Google Photo Album and set the same album again. The behavior does not correct until I do one of these 2 things.

Additional Context:

I have 3 of these devices and only 1 is not functioning properly. Strangely enough it is also the one closest to the WiFi source.

Hey there Madman25b,

I'm really sorry to hear that your Ambient Mode is giving you such a headache. I'd be happy to help you look into this, let me just ask you a few questions:

  • When did this issue first occur?
  • Is your Google Home app up-to-date?
  • Have you cleared out the cached app data on the Google Home app?
  • Are you able to change the Ambient Mode settings from another mobile? If so, does the problem persist?

It's interesting that only one of the three Chromecast devices are having this issue, in the event the troubleshooting doesn't help, you may need to submit feedback via the Google Home app to let the Chromecast engineering team know.

I look forward to your response, and if you have any other questions or concerns for me, please let me know!

Best regards,
Jeran
