Hello, would anyone know how to make the chromecast go to ambient mode by default on powerup. I dislike that it goes right into google tv - pick your app mode. I preferred the by default ambient mode of the older chromecasts. I did notice that I can just press the back button right away to force the switch.

Hi Gilbi,
Thanks for posting here in the Google Nest Community. It usually takes 10 minutes of inactivity (standby) before the ambient mode kicks in. It can be changed through settings. It can’t be activated automatically by default, though, but you can activate it right away by pressing and holding the home button on the remote and then choosing the wallpaper or ambient mode option.
I hope this helps. Let us know if you have other concerns.
Thanks,
Kimy

Oh well, I kind of liked how the old chromecast started up in picture mode as opposed to business mode. Seems like it would be simple to add that as an option. Fingers crossed!

Hello Gilbi,
Thanks for the reply. The older versions of Chromecast devices are just for casting. So it will stay in ambient mode until a cast command has been sent to it (since it’s a slave device) and will eventually go back to ambient mode once it’s done with its task. The Google TV versions are not slave devices now as they have their own input functions. But you have the option to activate the ambient mode as soon as it fully loads the Google TV interface.
I hope this clarifies the difference between the older and newer versions of the Chromecast devices. Let us know if you still have other concerns.
Cheers,
Kimy
