Chromecast can't fix connection

Jorred

I have had a Chromecast for many years. A few weeks ago I woke up and it wasn't working. I am quite tech savvy and did every logical troobleshooting option possible.it all seemed fined but when it came to it, would not connect with my device. After reaching out for help to no avail I cracked and bought a brand new Chromecast. I have been trying to set it up and it all seems fine until I have to enter the wifi password. It tells me it is wrong. It is absolutely, unequivocally not wrong. Where do I go from here? I now have 2 Chromecasts that I can't use and I can't find a human to help me beyond giving me the same old list I've gone through a thousand times.

Good luck finding help with Google nest devices.

When I try to connect the Chromecast to my phone it says the same, doesn't happen with my regular network.

It seems that there's issues depending on the WiFi point type.

Same happened with other devices and a Xiaomi wifi repeater.

Maybe try sharing wifi from your phone or laptop and see the results.

Hi folks,

Thanks for posting and for being a step ahead of us. Does your Wi-Fi password (passphrase) include special characters? That’s the only thing that I can think of that could be causing this. ASCII-related matter: recognition for the particular character input. Try to change the password to something easier, and if it works, then come up with something more complicated, less the special characters that cause the contrast in input.

To isolate if this is an actual network issue, try to connect your Chromecast device to your phone’s mobile hotspot by setting it up using the remote.

Let us know how it goes.

Thanks,

Kimy

It won't connect even to a open network, I still think that my network device type is the closest to the truth.

(I tried disabling the password at all for testing purposes and it still won't connect)

Hi AKGamerTech,

Thanks for the reply. The Chromecast device is designed to work on a secured, non-complex home type of network (WLAN). It follows the 2-step network connection, which is (1) detecting and connecting to the SSID and (2) input of the network key or password. A network without a password defies this already.

Did it work with a simpler password? If it fails, what is the make and model of the router?

We’ll wait for your response.

Kimy

Thank you for your assistance in troubleshooting this. As I've clarified previously, the issue persists across various networks, including my phone's hotspot, ruling out a specific router problem.

This challenge isn't isolated to my setup but seems to resonate with the original poster and others facing similar issues. The responses provided, mainly focusing on password complexity and network type, seem rather generic and miss addressing the broader issue experienced across different network setups.

However, I won't be delving further into troubleshooting this matter on the forum. I'm no longer actively seeking a solution and will be deleting my community account shortly. Thank you for your time.

Hello AKGamerTech,

I understand your point, and I thank you for clarifying. Since you’ve already tried a mobile hotspot and the issue still persists, it may indeed be an issue with the network chip of the actual device. If you’re already in contact with the support team, I suggest you continue there to identify if your device is still eligible for warranty replacement. If you haven’t reached out to them yet, let me know so I can send you the form.

We look forward to your response.

Best,

Kimy
