AppleTV App Says Video Not Available on Chromecast

vipra
Community Member

Hi,

I have installed Apple TV App on the Chromecast.

The internet connectivity is fine. All other apps on the Chromecast are working fine.

AppleTV App isn't working.

Every time I play content from the library, it comes up with this error message. (Exact same problem as https://www.googlenestcommunity.com/t5/Chromecast/Apple-TV-library-Video-not-available/m-p/285597)

Video Not Available
There was a problem loading this video.
If this continues, check your internet connection.

The AppleTV App is working fine on my iPad and Macbook. The problem only seems to be on Chromecast.

I have tried 2 different Chromecast with Google TV (4K). Both have the same problem.

I have tried clearing app cache and data.

I also tried factory resetting the Chromecast.

It hasn't resolved the issue.

Hello @vipra,

It's frustrating that the Apple TV app isn't working on your Chromecast with Google TV, even though other apps function properly. Thanks for letting me know the troubleshooting steps you've already taken, like clearing cache, data, and even factory resetting the Chromecast.

Here are some additional things to consider specific to the Apple TV app and Chromecast:

Apple TV App and Chromecast Compatibility:

  • While the Apple TV app is available on Chromecast with Google TV, there might be occasional compatibility issues.

Troubleshooting Steps:

  1. Check for App Updates: Ensure you have the latest version of the Apple TV app installed on your Chromecast. Updates often include bug fixes and compatibility improvements.
  2. Reinstall the Apple TV App: Try uninstalling and then reinstalling the Apple TV app on your Chromecast. This can sometimes resolve glitches with the app installation.
  3. Check Google TV System Updates: Make sure your Chromecast with Google TV is running the latest system software. Updates can address compatibility issues with various apps.
  4. Sign Out and Sign Back In: Try signing out of your Apple TV app on Chromecast and then signing back in with your account. This can sometimes refresh the connection.
  5. Contact Apple TV Support: If the issue persists after these steps, consider contacting Apple TV support. They might have further insights specific to the app and its interaction with Chromecast.

Here are some resources that might be helpful:

I hope these suggestions help you get the Apple TV app working on your Chromecast with Google TV. If none of these solutions work, you might need to wait for a future update from either Apple or Google that addresses the compatibility issue.

All the best,

Jorge

Hi,

Thanks for your reply.

  • I have the latest version of Chromecast with Google TV 4K
  • I have the latest version of the Apple TV app
  • Logged out and logged back in

Still no use

However I noticed a funny behaviour.

If I uninstall the app and reinstall it, I can watch one movie.

Once the first movie is done, or if I pause the movie or if I exit the movie, then the app goes back to the error message.

I contacted Apple support. They haven't responded yet.

Hi @vipra,

Thanks for providing those additional details! It helps narrow down the possibilities.

It's interesting that you can watch one movie after reinstalling the app, but then the error returns. This suggests the issue might be with the app itself or how it interacts with your specific device after some initial use.

Since you've already tried the common troubleshooting steps like logging out or in and checking for updates, you can try one more time clearing the app cache and data:

  • Go to Settings > Apps (or Apps & Notifications).
  • Find the Apple TV app and tap on it.
  • Select Storage and then tap on Clear cache and Clear storage (be cautious; this will remove any downloaded content within the app).
  • Relaunch the Apple TV app and see if the issue persists.

I appreciate that you have already contacted Apple TV support; waiting for their response is wise. They might have specific troubleshooting steps for Apple TV on Chromecast devices.

Please let me know how it goes or if you have any other questions.

Regards,

Jorge

Hi Jorge,

Thanks for that.

I tried all the steps mentioned above and still no use. Same old issue.

I never got an answer back from Apple Support. 🙁

Is there anything else that can be done?

In the Apple TV app if you change the resolution settings from 4k to SD the app stops crashing the Google Tv chromecast. Had this issue years ago whenmy broadband wasn't very fast.

I tried doing that in combination with different frequencies. No use.

Hello @vipra,

Thanks for posting in the community! I understand it must be frustrating that Apple TV support wasn't able to resolve the issue right away, especially since everything else seems to be working fine.

Here are a couple of next steps you can try:

Contact Apple TV Support Again: Sometimes reaching out again or speaking with a different representative can lead to a different solution.
Search for Online Resources: Apple's website or online forums might have troubleshooting guides or solutions for similar issues with Apple TV.
Additionally:

If you'd like to try another factory reset, I can provide you with the specific steps to ensure you're following the correct procedure, or you can also check out this article on how to factory reset your Chromecast

Please let me know how it goes.

Regards,

Jorge.
