Are you still watching

Hi, I don’t really know what my platform is but had to select  something so selected android? I have the google chromecast  4g? plugged into my Panasonic tv via hdmi with the internet (wifi?) I use for my computer making it work.

I like my tv on all night while I sleep. But when casting free tv stuff 7, 7+, 9, 9Now, 10 sbs etc, it keeps coming up with are you still watching and pausing the tv program. I desperately need this to stop pausing my tv viewing whilst I sleep. Is there anyway to stop this from happening? I keep reading how YouTube does this and can’t be stopped but nobody mentions the free tv stuff. I don’t have any paid subscriptions.

I have turned off the ambient and even gone into the developer setting and enabled ‘stay awake’ - but still pausing tv program with ‘are you still watching?

Please tell me there is a way to stop this or recommend another product that will let me watch tv all night without pausing like this

Hi, @ShaBat,

Thank you for reaching out to the community. I apologize for the inconvenience caused by your TV suddenly stopping when you cast at night. I understand how frustrating this issue can be. I'm here to help you find a solution.

To better assist you, please provide the following information:

  • How long does it take before it stops casting?
  • Did the video buffer or pixelate before it stopped casting?
  • Does this issue only occur when casting from an app, or does it also happen when casting from your device's screen?
  • Is the video playing without problems on your device when you're not casting?
  • Does this issue only occur with one particular app, or does it happen with all of your apps?

In the meantime, here are some troubleshooting steps you can try:

  • Restart your Chromecast and router, then attempt to play other videos within the same app.
  • If the inconvenience persists with other videos in the same app, try casting from a different app.
  • If casting from another app works, clear the data and/or cache of the app experiencing the problem, then try casting again.
  • If the video continues to pause, delete and reinstall the app that is causing the issue.

Please let me know how it goes.

Best regards,

Ana

Hi, I will try very hard to answer your questions but I’m not very knowledgeable of all these things?

  • How long does it take before it stops casting? - sometimes 1 hr (happens before I fall asleep) - sometimes longer - I go to sleep and it has stopped when I wake - I don’t think it is a set time

  • Did the video buffer or pixelate before it stopped casting? No

  • Does this issue only occur when casting from an app, or does it also happen when casting from your device's screen? My understanding is it is always operating from an app? 9Now, 7plus, abc, SBS, channel 10 and YouTube - these are all apps downloaded to the chromecast to click on and watch various programs from within the app? I do not have any paid subscriptions. I have read online that YouTube do this deliberately so commercials are watched and not ignored but have not read the other apps do the same thing?

  • Is the video playing without problems on your device when you're not casting? Not sure what this means? I don’t think I am casting - I am using the chromecast with the remote control and picking things that are within chromecast to watch? I have made sure the tv settings don’t switch the tv off - but having said that, the tv doesn’t turn off - chromecast stops playing the program - sometimes I wake up to ‘are you still watching” with a yes or no to choose, but generally just a blank screen. I have accessed the developer settings and enabled ‘stay awake’. And turned off the ambient setting which means it now no longer goes to the screen with photo and time in bottom right of screen - now it just seems to go a hazed blank screen

  • Does this issue only occur with one particular app, or does it happen with all of your apps? This seems to happen with all the apps (7plus, 9Now, etc - if these are apps?) I have tried going to sleep with a different channel program each night and all of them seem to do the same thing. And the programs are usually many episode series and the settings are set to automatically go to the next episode.

You have suggested I -

  • Restart your Chromecast and router, then attempt to play other videos within the same app.
  • If the inconvenience persists with other videos in the same app, try casting from a different app.
  • If casting from another app works, clear the data and/or cache of the app experiencing the problem, then try casting again.
  • If the video continues to pause, delete and reinstall the app that is causing the issue

I believe I have done all this a few times now and nothing different? The only one I am not sure if I have done is to clear data and/or cache - not sure what this is or how to do it?

sorry I don’t sound more intelligent - any further advice?

thanks

Hi, @ShaBat,

Thank you for your prompt response and the detailed information you've provided. I'm happy to assist you further.

I appreciate you letting me know that you've already tried some troubleshooting steps.

To clear the data and cache on your device:

Android:

  1. Go to Settings > Device > Apps > All.
  2. Locate the app experiencing issues and tap on it.
  3. Select Clear data and then OK.
  4. Tap Clear cache.

iOS:

  1. Press and hold the app icon until it starts to shake.
  2. Tap Remove App to delete it.
  3. Reinstall the app from the App Store.

Please ensure your Chromecast software is up-to-date. Additionally, I recommend testing the Chromecast with a different TV to see if the pausing issue and "Are you still watching?" message persist.

Please let me know how it goes.

Best regards,

Ana
