Browser on Chromecast with Google TV

MacNerd

I'm about to cut the cord.

I know that I can download browsers from the app store. Any preference for a specific browser?

I know that smart TVs have included browsers. I wonder which TVs have good internal browsers. I suppose Samsung, LG & Sony. I wonder if TCL or Vizio have internal browsers.

I have a 55" Samsung TV that has a built-in browser. I don't know how good it is since it's about 8 years old. I tried to connect a wired keyboard to my 55" TV without much luck. I wonder about using a wireless keyboard & mouse.

The way I see it is to either use the TV browser or use a downloaded browser.

I live in an apartment. The computer is in the utility room. The 23" isn't a smart TV. I want to get a bigger smart TV to which I can hook up my computer & streaming device.

Hi MacNerd,

There's a few web browsers available for the Chromecast with Google TV although Chrome is not currently available. I use the 'Odin Browser' myself and find it ok for limited browsing using the remote control.

If you want to connect a mouse and keyboard wired or wireless then you will also need a USB C Hub and a better power adapter that can power the Chromecast with Google TV and accessories.

Cathal

Thanks for the quick reply.

It's unusual that the Chrome browser isn't available on a Google device.

I checked out the Odin browser. It's side-loaded. I read online that sideloaded apps can't be automatically updated as they can from the Play store. But I also read online about APKUpdater. It searches for updates & notifies you of updates. Then the update is downloaded & installed. NEAT!

Hi again,

The Odin Browser isn't sideloaded, it's available from the Google Play store on my Chromecast with Google TV.
