Camera Tapo c510w not streaming to chromecast V4

Hello there!

I just bought the camera. I also have a chromecast, the new generation.

After configuring the Tapo app I can connect to the camera on my Samsung s23 phone, see the image clearly, move the camera around and such.

Then I linked the google home app with tapo app, link was successful and I can see the device on the google assistant.

When I say Hi google, and I command the assistant to see my camera on my chromecast, it says ok, transmitting your camera to your chromecast, and nothing happens.

I saw videos where after linking the google home and tapo apps you could transmit it like that, very easily, but somehow its not working.

Camera is ok, and also I can access the camera from my tv using some IP camera viewer app that supports onvif protocol, so Camera I think its ok.

I tried resetting the camera, linking all the things again, same output.

I can stream netflix and other apps from my phone to the chromecast without issues, all the devices are in the same network and see each other, just not streaming.

Already contacted TPLINK support, they mentioned that they see on the logs that the camara is trying to contact google servers to transmit the stream and that request gets a time out, so it seems its not a camera issue, thats why Im reaching google forums for support now.

Thanks for any help you could provide.

Hi Paio,

Thank you for posting in the community. I understand you're experiencing troubles streaming your Tapo camera to your Nest Chromecast. I appreciate all your troubleshooting efforts and detailed information in this situation. Help's here.

To further assist you, please answer the following questions:

  • What type of Nest Chromecast do you have? (You can visit this helpful article to identify your Nest Chromecast.)

  • On what device did you try to show the camera—on your TV, computer, or phone?

  • Does the Tapo camera receive power?

  • Do you see any notification from their Tapo camera app?

Please keep me posted.

Regards,

Byron

Hi Byron, thanks for reaching out.

Here are the answers:

- Chromecast with Google TV (4K)

- A Samsung smart TV (a model from 2016) with the chromecast connected with HDMI.

-  Camera is always on, I can see it live from anywhere using Tapo app on my phone

- No notifications whatsoever, should I see some? The intent to stream to TV is from google assistant under my voice command, which internally is linked to tplink provider on the configuration, as there are other devices that I also linked and can control using the assistant, such as smart lights. Other devices work well, so this is a particular situation with the camera/chromecast link.

Hi Paio,

Thank you for your prompt reply. I appreciate all the detailed information. Help's here.

Based on your answers, please review the following recommendations:

  • Use the exact names and locations as they appear in the app in which you set up the devices.

  • Make sure you use the Google Home app to link both devices and the TV to start the stream.

  • To check those options. Please do the following:

  1. Open the Home app.

  2. Tap Favorites or Devices.

  3. You’ll find your camera’s tile in its assigned room with its name listed.

  • Below you'll find a table to use Google Assistance's voice commands to stream your Tapo camera to your Chromecast with Google TV (4K):

Please let me know how it goes.

I appreciate the help, however, you just told me to basically set up the link and do the voice command, nothing new or technical to analyze, it's the same I did many times and it's not working, could you analyze the server logs or create a support ticket on Google so a support area can take a look? similar to what tplink did with the camera when I provided the Mac address and timestamp of the voice command to rule out a failure in the camera, thanks!

Hi Paio,

Thank you for your prompt reply. I'm sorry to hear that none of those steps worked. Let's explore additional options.

Considering the behavior you've been describing, the Google Home app and Chromecast with Google TV (4K) appear to work correctly. Additionally, all the steps and recommendations were done already; it might be best to reach out to the Tapo camera's support team directly for further assistance.

Please let me know if you have any further questions.

Regards,

Byron
