Can't cast the whole screen to chromecast 4k

kostadinangelov

Hello, i have Mac M3 and Chromecast with google tv 4k.
I have a problem with sharing the whole screen. I can only share a tab... When i try to share a screen, the chromecast just freezes and then it returns to the main menu. One workaround i found is turning off the graphic acceleration from the browser, then it works, but i need it for some web apps. Is there another way to resolve this issue?

OS Ver: Sequoia 15.2

Chrome version: Version 131.0.6778.205 (Official Build) (arm64)

Hi Kostadinangelov,

Thank you for posting in the community. I'm sorry to hear that you're encountering an issue with screen casting. The Chromecast seems to be freezing and then returning to the main menu. I'm happy to help you!

At the moment, i need to ask a few questions to give the correct troubleshooting:

  • How close are the devices to each other?
  • When did the inconvenience start?
  • How far is the device from the router?

In the meantime, please follow these troubleshooting below:

Keep me posted,

Best regards,

Rusell.

Hello,

- Devices are in the same room - 2 meter distance

- Don't know when it started, it just does not work

-They are in the same room, same network

-Restarted it, nothing changed

-Also the chromecast is with the latest update - STTL.241013.003.12571383

I am going to say the problem again - its casting but only tabs. To cast the whole screen we have to turn off browser's graphic acceleration, but this prevents us from using some web apps.

Hi Kostadinangelov,

Thank you for your response. I appreciate the information provided and I apologize that you're still getting the same inconvenience.

  • Ensure that the browser used is Google Chrome and that it’s up-to-date
  • Check if other devices can cast successfully as Phones or Tables
  • Reboot the casting device
    • Turn the device off.
    • Wait several seconds.
    • Turn it back on.
  • Reboot the router
    • Disconnect the Wi-Fi router from the socket and leave it unplugged for 2 minutes then plug back in.
  • Uninstall and reinstall Google Chrome

Let me know how it goes.

Best regards,

Rusell.

Hello,

-We are using latest Google Chrome - Version 131.0.6778.265 (Official Build) (arm64)
-Every device can cast
-Rebooted everything multiple times
-Rebooted the router
-It does not work again even after reinstalling

Conclusion: This does not help 😕

HI @kostadinangelov  Is there an update to this issue? I also can't seem to be able to cast the entire Mac screen to Chromecast-enabled TVs from MacBooks, only casting Tab works. alas, it's okay with Chrome on windows pcs

We have the same issue, we think its something related to the Chromecast/Mac connection, it happens only there... Windows PCs are good, androids as well, the only solution we found is to disable the browser's graphic acceleration, to cast the whole screen

We have the same problem in our office. We can't cast whole screen with any mac book to any of the 5 Google TV streamers in the office. The TV streamers work with other laptops on windows or chrome os

Hey, yes we've tried all these troubleshooting steps. This really is a systemic problem that all macbooks in our office have with all the TV streamers in the office.

I am thinking the problem might be from the mac books(The OS), not from the chromecasts, because with earlier versions i think it was working
