Can't change thread network on Google Streamer

I am rolling out Matter over thread in my home, using Home Assistant.

Rightfully so HA saw my two Google streamers and border routers,  but they seemed to have picked up a thread network generated by my nanoleaf shapes that has never been utilised for anything.

I turned off my nanoleaf and turned of thread on the streamers initially to get rid of the obsolete network.  So only one thread network is active and alive in my house.

I cleared google play services data on my phone and synced the HA thread.

Now factory resetting the Streamer and setting it up I can't set it up from my phone it keeps giving autentication errors when trying to do so, and when setting it up by the remote when done, it has the nanoleaf thread network again...  I can't seem to be able to clear this.

Apperatly this data is synced to the cloud,  but is there a way of clearing this?   (play services clearing clearly does not clear the cloud).  I would love the streamers to join the perfered thread i want to build up and strenghthen my network.

Hi @RensM,

Thanks for reaching out to the community! I understand that you have been experiencing some issues with your Google TV Streamer, specifically regarding the fact that it keeps defaulting to an obsolete Thread network instead of joining your preferred one. Additionally, you're getting authentication errors during setup, and the device seems to be pulling old data from the cloud even after a factory reset. I can see how frustrating it is to have your network strength compromised by this "ghost" configuration; however, I appreciate the detailed breakdown of your setup and the steps you've already taken, such as clearing Google Play Services and syncing with Home Assistant. Let’s look into this together!

Since you have already tried most of the standard troubleshooting, let’s try a different route to see if we can clear those cached credentials. Please try the following steps:

  • Clear Google Account Device Sync: Go to your Google Account settings > Security > Your devices. Find the Google TV Streamer and select Sign out or Remove to ensure the cloud doesn't push old credentials back to the device.
  • Refresh the App: Uninstall and reinstall the Google Home app on your primary phone to clear any local cache.
  • Isolate the Device: If available, try performing the setup using a different mobile device to see if the authentication error persists.
  • Test a Different Account: Temporarily try setting up the device with a different Google Account. This will help us determine if the Thread network data is tied specifically to your main account's cloud sync.
  • Final Setup: Perform one more factory reset on the streamer and attempt the setup again.

Keep me posted on the results of these tests!

Best regards,

Debora

Ok I did the following:

  • Cleared the divice(s) (I have two) from my google account
  • Removed the home app from phone and reinstalled
  • Factory reset streamers
  • used an old phone (also home removed and reinstalled)

Setting up streamers via phone still gives authentication error (on both phones)

Can set up via remote,  now streamer says not connected to thread (that is at least something) but does not pick up existing thread. (one of the streamers when seeing it in HA thread still had old thread network reporting there whilst not in the network screen of setup of the device)

I could not use a differnt account as only other alphabet accounts I have available are linked kids accounts

So partial resolve in a way but nothing useful...
