Cannot use voice search with supervised child account

I have the now-discontinued 2022 Chromecast with voice search. My daughter is familiar with the YouTube kids app on our tablet, and she recently started to be able to use the voice remote on her own to search for videos on the TV. I decided to create a supervised child account and set up YouTube kids on our TV, and I was excited for her to start picking her own videos using voice search.

However, every time we try to use voice search, we get a message saying it isn't available for her profile. I have gone into Family Link -> Content Settings -> Google Assistant and made sure her permissions are correct there. I believe I am supposed to "add a device" from that menu and select our Chromecast, but it isn't listed as an available device. I also have seen several posts online with users facing the same issue, and no one has found a solution.

Since the device is being discontinued, I figure it's a lost cause, but I am curious if this is an issue specific to the 2022 Chromecast, or if this is a limitation of Google TV in general?

I really like the UI/UX of Google TV and would be interested in upgrading my device, but if my children can't use voice search with their own accounts, then that would be a definite deal-breaker. I even tried adding my teen son's account, which is also supervised, and was not able to use voice search for him either.

Has anyone been able to set up voice search with a supervised child account on any model of Google TV?

Btw, I did come up with a workaround. If I am logged into YouTube under my profile, I can add a "kid" YouTube profile - which is attached to my profile and not a separate account - and that will enable my daughter to use the YT Kids experience along with voice search.

The obvious downside here is that it has completely separate search history and subscriptions, so if I want to tailor her algorithm by adding or blocking content, I have to double that on the TV profile.

I also think it is less secure in that there is no way to prevent her from switching back to my profile or going out of YouTube all together, but that isn't a concern of mine at the moment.

This temporary workaround is fine for now, but I will not be buying another Google Device if I can't set her profile up with voice search.
