I have been using chromecast (the dark gray one) for several years. I use to cast from Safari as there is a webpage that hosts spinningclasses. To do that I have used the app called Momocast. All of a sudden the cast stopped after about 30-40 minutes, and it is the impossible to restart the cast. I tried switching to the app "WebVideoCast", same thing happened. I then tried to cast from Google Chrome on my windows PC... same thing! I have then tried the following found here at the nest community:
Still my cast stops after about 30-40 minutes. I have also tried having the mp4 file downloaded to my PC and cast it from there using Chrome - still the same. So today I went and bought a brand new CHromecast, installed it, it was upgraded to FW 1.68.2.158 and guess what - it has been a complete waste of money and time buing the new device as I still have the problem.
In essens all devices are on the same network and it doesn't matter if the stream is PC local or on a website it still stops after about 30-40 minutes.

BTW. I'm casting from: Online Rides | Bike Academy Denmark in case you want to test for yourself.

F.....g amazing! I used the chat function in order to get some help and one person said I should use a newer device and I asked if a new device had been released the same week - no answer! The other person ended up referring me to a different vendor of streaming devices - like Apple TV 🙄 I think that sums it up what Google thinks about their customers who actually buy their products.

Hi loganm,
Thanks for posting and for being a step ahead of us. We’re sorry for the trouble, and this is not the experience that we wanted you to have. A few questions: what Chromecast device do you have connected to your TV? You tagged Chromecast with Google TV, but the firmware you mentioned doesn’t match what the (firmware) Android TV OS build, STTL.231114.004 for it, not even its remote’s firmware version. This firmware version 1.68.2.158 that you mentioned doesn't seem to match the current production firmware, even on older Chromecast versions. Check this: Chromecast firmware versions and release notes for reference. If this is a Chromecast with Google TV, how does the stand-alone function work with you? Were you able to play (not cast) the installed apps like Netflix, YouTube, Disney+, Prime Video, etc.? You only mentioned issues about casting from a computer source; is this also happening when casting cast-enabled apps like Netflix, YouTube, Spotify, etc. from smartphones or tablets? Have you tried casting from another computer?
Please be reminded that the Google Chrome browser is optimized for casting on Chromecast devices. Yes, some websites have innate cast icons on their pages and contents, which is why other browsers can seem to cast, but it’s not guaranteed to be optimized with Chromecasts. The right way to cast from the Chrome browser on computers is by clicking the 3 dots from the upper right and scrolling down to click Save and Share; from there, you’ll find the Cast option at the bottom.
We can isolate possible network issues by disconnecting your Chromecast device from your home Wi-Fi using its remote, then connecting it to your smartphone’s mobile hotspot along with your computer. You can then cast and observe if the same behavior persists.
Kindly share more information so we can understand more about what’s going on. We look forward to your response.
Thanks,
Kimy

Hi Kimy,
By looking in the "About" information I see
Kernel version: 5.4.210-android12-9-g88f9012e845a
and Android TV OS Build:
STTK.230808.004
I have have now tried to install the BrowseHere app and using that to watch the sessions and that works ok - I have to press play about every 20 minutes, but that is something I can live with.
I can also play from an installed app without issues.
I have also tested the Chromecast on a different network and it fails.
I'm not interested in using the Chromecast HD for anything else then casting the spinning sessions from the website

Hello loganm,
Thanks for the reply. Kindly check for updates since Android TV OS build STTL.231114.004 is already out to overwrite STTK.230808.004 that you still have. Kindly install yours, then let us know how it goes.

Kimy

I finally managed to get upgraded to STTL.231114.004 however I'm still having issues. When casting from iPhone the streaming still stops after about the mentioned 30-40 minutes.
Also as mentioned I can use the BrowseHere app, but doing so also stops the video after about 30ish minutes. So currently there is NO WAY I can see a 60 minutes spinning session from the mentioned site, nor if I download the MP4 to a local computer and stream it from that to the Chromecast using the Google browser.

Hi loganm,
Appreciate the update here. How was it when you cast other (well-established) cast-enabled apps like Netflix, YouTube, Disney+, Prime Video, etc. from your iPhone? And these websites too when casting from the Chrome browser on your computer? I understand that you can play installed apps, but since your concern is about casting, I just needed to confirm if the casting function itself is working and if the issue is related to a particular website or contents from that source. Also, I suggest you do a full clean-up by performing a factory reset and setting it up from scratch to remove any corrupted files or data. Keep us posted.
Thanks,
Kimy
