Casting from Google Photos causes audio delay

Behtjes
Community Member

When casting a video from Google photos to my Chromecast with Google TV 4k, the audio and video are out of sync. The audio is delayed. This happens on every android device I use, and on both Chromecasts I own. I've plugged the Chromecast into multiple tv's and monitors, with and without a sound bar connected. All have the same delay. When I try to cast the same video to the Chromecast via VLC player, the delay is gone. It's a Google photos specific problem.

I've tried all audio and video settings on the Chromecast. From stereo to Dolby and 1080p to 4k with and without hdr an Dolby vision.

Latest firmware installed.

Used devices:

samsung Galaxy s21

Samsung Galaxy s24

Hi Behtjes,

Thanks for reaching out to the Community. I'm sorry that you are having audio delays when casting from Google Photos to your Chromecast. I’d be happy to help you. Let’s check it out.

Basic troubleshooting steps:

  1. Network Connectivity:
    • Ensure a strong, stable Wi-Fi connection for both your casting device and Chromecast.
    • Network congestion can impact streaming quality. Consider temporarily disconnecting other devices.
  2. Device Compatibility:
    • Check for updates on your Chromecast with Google TV, Google Photos app, and casting device (phone, tablet, etc.).
    • Ensure all devices are compatible and running the latest software versions.
  3. Audio Settings:
    • Adjust audio settings on your Chromecast with Google TV. Try experimenting with different audio formats (e.g., stereo, Dolby Digital).
    • Check for any audio output settings that might be causing delays.
  4. Casting Device Settings:
    • Adjust video quality settings on your casting device. Lowering the video resolution might improve audio sync.
    • Close other apps running in the background on your casting device.
  5. External Factors:
    • If you're using a soundbar or external speakers, try different audio output settings or connections.
    • Check for any audio processing features on your TV that might introduce delays.
  6. Restart Devices: Restart your Chromecast, casting device, and router to refresh connections.

In case it helps, you can also follow this good article to update the Sound Settings or Reboot your Chromecast device.

Let me know how it goes.

Best regards,

Mario

@chaconmorales Like I said in my starting post, I've tried all that. Everything is up to date. I even tried a desktop monitor, all the same delay. Using VLC player to cast works without any problem..

I can't imagine I'm the only one who has this problem.

Hello @Behtjes,

Thanks for replying.
I know how this issue is indeed frustrating, and it seems like you've already tried several troubleshooting steps. Thank you for your effort.

To further investigate, please provide the following information:

  • TV Model: Please specify your TV's model.
  • Audio System: Are you using a soundbar or external speakers? If so, please provide the model.

While I gather more information, you can try the following step:

  1. Factory Reset Chromecast: As a last resort, you can try performing a factory reset on your Chromecast with Google TV. You can follow the steps at this link: Factory reset your Chromecast device

Please keep me posted; I will be more than happy to assist you. Thank you.

Regards,
Jorge

@ovidioj

TV model(s):
LG OLED 55 C9
Sony KDL-42W656A

I've got 2 chromecasts, both are having the same issue. Even after a factory reset and stereo settings, with / without soundbar en on every tv I plug them in. Again: VLC player doesn't have this issue when casting the same video to the same chromecast on the same tv with the same settings.
