Casting to Chromecast is fuzzy

TheTrashman

The Chromecast (Model G454V) works well whenever i stream using it but the issue arises whenever I cast to it. As soon as you start casting, the image distorts and goes somewhat fuzzy. I have tried factory resetting the issue and messing with some settings but there has been no change. I have even tested it on where it is right next to the Wi-Fi access point and where the device I am casting from is right next to the Chromecast. What else can I do to get this fixed, or does this mean that I have to replace the device?

Hi @TheTrashman,

Thanks for reaching out here in the community! I understand how inconvenient it is when the image distorts and becomes fuzzy during Chromecast casting, particularly since you tested being closer to the Wi-Fi access point and your casting device is right next to the Chromecast. No worries, I'd be happy to help with this!

I also appreciate you taking the time to perform some workarounds. This definitely helps to move forward with troubleshooting towards a resolution. Based on the information you've provided, it seems like you have the Chromecast with Google TV (HD). Could you please confirm if this is correct?

In addition, I'd like to ask the following:

  • When did the issue start?
  • To clarify, what is the make and model of the device you're using to cast?
  • Does this issue only happen when you cast from a particular app?
  • Have you ever cast before without any video quality issues from the same device?
  • Are there other apps that actively run on the device?
  • Would you mind sharing a picture showing the behavior? A picture of the distorted/fuzzy image would be very helpful.

In the meantime, check for any updates for the Google Home app and for the operating system of your casting device (if applicable).

Please keep me posted.

Best regards,

Jenniffer

Hey @jenniffert,

Thank you so much for getting back to me. Here are the answers to your questions:

  • The issue started about 2 months ago, so we replaced it but would hopefully like to get fixed
  • It is indeed the Google Chromecast with google tv HD (G454V)
  • We only ever stream from Google Chrome. If screen mirroring form my phone, there does not seem to be an issue
  • We used to cast from the same pc for over 2 years, all of a sudden 2 months ago, it just decided tohttps://media-hosting.imagekit.io/88c81e14c90c48fc/20250415_120023.jpg?Expires=1840118494&Key-Pair-I...  break
  • There are no additional apps aside from the ones that came preinstalled with the Google TV

Thank you so much for getting to me and trying to assist me in this endeavor. It's greatly appreciated!

Kind Regards

Dylan

Hi @TheTrashman,

Thanks for following up!

I appreciate the information provided and confirming the Google Chromecast model. To continue investigating the inconvenience, I'd like to confirm the following:

  • Have you tried casting the same content from a mobile device, tablet, or other PC to the Google Chromecast? If so, did you get the same fuzzy image on the TV?

In the meantime, I'd suggest the following:

  • Try different HDMI ports on your TV.
  • If possible, try to use the Chromecast with another TV or High-Definition Multimedia Interface (HDMI) display, if possible.

Keep me updated.

Best regards,

Good Morning Jennifer,

I have tried casting from different devices before and laptops/PCs seem to be the worst offenders, they are the ones that create the same fuzzy look like in the image I attached in one of my previous messages. Whenever I cast from a phone or tablet, I don't get the same look but instead it is incredibly laggy. The image quality is very poor, frames jump around and get stuck as well.

We have tried this on 3 more TVs and on a Monitor and all get the same poor quality.

Thank you!

Kind Regards

Dylan

Hi @TheTrashman,

Thanks for your reply, I appreciate you taking the time to perform some workarounds.

Since you're experiencing a fuzzy or distorted image, especially when casting from laptops or PCs, and a lagging image while casting from a mobile device on different TVs. The team would like to learn more about this behavior. When you get a chance, please fill out this form and let us know when you’re finished. We’ll have someone reach out to you via email from there.

Keep me posted.

Best regards,

Jenniffer
