Casting youtube to an old Chromecast dongle

How do I cast Youtube to an old chromecast dongle?

My TV doesn't have the YouTube app. Bit YouTube requires me to link devices using the youtube app on the device.  But I can't get a code because I'm casting to old Chromecast dongle

How do I cast?

In detail.
I open YouTube on my android phone.
Select a video.
Click the Chromecast button.
YouTube on my android phone asks me to *link with code"
I get the "link with code" option.

But since my Old TV with an old Chromecast dongle does not have YouTube, I can't get a code.

How can I cast?
Can I cast in guest mode without *linking*??

Hi @JamesLlewellyn,

Thank you for posting in the community. I’m sorry to hear that you're having trouble casting YouTube to your Chromecast. I understand how difficult it is when the app asks for a "link with code" that you can’t use on your TV. I appreciate you clarifying that your TV doesn't have its own YouTube app. I'm happy to assist.

To gather the necessary information, please answer the following questions:

  • What model of Chromecast do you have? The following article might be helpful: Chromecast and Google TV Streamer specifications.
  • When you tap the Cast icon, does your Chromecast's name appear in the list, or does it only show the "Link with TV code" option?
  • Besides casting from the YouTube app, have you tried casting from your phone using screen mirroring?
  • Are your phone and the Chromecast on the same Wi-Fi network and frequency (2.4GHz / 5GHz)?
  • Can you cast from a different app (like Netflix or Spotify) to see if those work without a code?

I'll be waiting for your reply.

Best regards,

Derick.
