Hi!
I just figured out recently that the OS on Chromecasts with Google TV (HD and 4k versions) do not provide an option to change the layout/language of any phsysical keyboards attached (bluetooth and/or USB). The corresponding setting is simply not present.
It seems like the default layout and language for physical keyboards is hardcode to the QUERTY. So in my case, when I want to use a German keyboard with a QUERTZ layout, I have no official way of changing the layout in the OS so that it fits my actual keyboard. The QUERTZ and the QUERTY layout have quite some differences, and it's very annoying to figure out which keys to press.
I guess this is an oversight, as on other Android OS (smartphones and tablets), there is a setting to change the physyical keyboard layouts. It's simply missing for Google TV.
There are 3rd party apps that can help out with that, but they come with their own huge disadvantages. You have to set them up as your virtual keyboard, so that they are able to remap the keys. What happens in this case is that you pretty much lose your virtual keyboard functionality and hava to switch keyboards in the settings all the time depening on what you are using.
Long story, short question: Are there any plans to implement the settings for physical keyboards in the future?
Thank you and br from Austria
