Chrome cast stopped working

Been using this chrome cast for years then all of a sudden it does not connect to anything. Says it's connected to wifi but cannot be found?? I get a message telling me to go into my router settings and disable AP settings. Never had to do this before? Why would this all of a sudden stop working?? I have 3 of these and this stopped working?? Do they go bad? Do I just buy a new one?

Hi Woitasb,

Thank you for posting in the community. I'm sorry to hear that you're experiencing issues with your Chromecast device saying that it is connected but cannot be found. I understand how frustrating this can be. I'm here to help.

Before I begin, I need to ask a few questions for further assistance:

  • What model of Chromecast do you have?
  • When did the issue start?
  • Have you tried to cast from another cell phone or tablet?

For your concern, please try the below steps:

  • Restart Everything: Power cycle your Chromecast (unplug, wait 30 seconds, plug back in), router, and modem. This often resolves temporary glitches.
  • Check Wi-Fi Signal: Ensure your Chromecast is within a strong Wi-Fi signal range. Move it closer to your router if necessary.
  • Interference: Identify and minimize potential sources of Wi-Fi interference (other devices, cordless phones, microwaves).

  • Firmware Updates:
    • Chromecast: Update your Chromecast's firmware through the Google Home app.
    • Router: Update your router's firmware according to your router manufacturer's instructions. Outdated firmware can sometimes cause compatibility issues.

  • Disable AP Settings: If you find an option related to "Access Point" or "AP Isolation," try disabling it. This setting can sometimes interfere with Chromecast functionality.
  • If the issue is the same, factory reset your Chromecast device.

Let me know how it goes and keep me posted.

Regards,

Kevin

I have 2 gen 1 and a gen 2 chrome cast. All have worked without issue for years and still do up until just recently with this gen 1. I've rebooted everything multiple times and tried different phones to cast. Keeps coming up with same issue, connects to internet but not found while the others still work. Only thing I am not savy with is getting into router settings updating firmware through app? How can I do that if it's not found on the app?

Hi Woitasb,

Thank you for your response. Thanks for all the information shared. Let's work together for a solution.

I'd like to inform you that support for the Chromecast 1st Generation has ceased. This means it will not receive any further software or security upgrades, and Google will be unable to assist you with any problems you may have. You may also notice a decrease in performance over time. I recommend upgrading to a newer model for the greatest streaming experience.

Let me know if you have any further questions.

Regards,

Kevin

Can you suggest an alternative  / replacement?? I went to a store a few days ago and the staff said they discontinued the chrome cast streaming system. U have to buy a new system with Google TV built in. I don't need another TV service just a casting device.

Hi Woitasb,

Thank you for your response. Let's work together for a solution.

You're right, the original Chromecast has been discontinued. However, you don't necessarily need a whole new TV service.

Here's an alternative:

  • Google Chromecast with Google TV:

    • This is essentially the updated version of the original Chromecast.
    • It still allows you to cast from your phone, but it also has its own interface with apps like Netflix, YouTube, etc., built in.

If you're really set on a device that's just for casting and don't want the extra features of Google TV, you might have a harder time finding something.

Let me know if you have any further questions.

Regards,

Kevin
