Chromecast 2nd Gen "Disconnected device" - unable to accessdevice settings

Hi,  I have just had the issue yesterday.  I am able to set up Chromecast in the Google Home app but it keeps showing "Disconnected device" even after I have rebooted my modem (which is a 5G wireless modem), reinstalled Google Home app, etc.  Please help.

Hi Kimy,

For some reason, I was able to reset my modem, then reboot the Chromecast and reboot my phone and it worked!  I'd done this a few times before this without success, but glad it's now fixed.

Thanks.

Hi yjkmick,

Thanks for reaching out — let’s see what’s going on. A few questions: what Chromecast device are you using? Are you getting any messages after completing the setup on the Google Home app? Is your TV showing the Ambient mode (screensaver) on the screen? What is the make and model of your router?

Give the steps below a try and let me know how it goes:

  • Try a factory reset, then re-setup.
  • Ensure that both your phone and Chromecast device are on the same band (2.4 GHz or 5 GHz).
  • To isolate it, connect it to a mobile hotspot.

Thanks,

Kimy
