Hello,
I'm trying to set up an older Chromecast, and it's being a real PITA. I'm on a new WiFi network, so I've tried a few things. I've unplugged the power, waited, and plugged it back in. I've tried different HDMI ports. I've tried unplugging and restarting the TV (with nothing other than the Chromecast attached). I've tried a factory reset on the Chromecast.
When I first plug in the power, it pops up with a "Chromecast" message in white, and then I get the Google logo for a few moments (feels like a loading screen), but then it drops to a black screen and nothing happens, regardless of how long I wait.
If I do a factory reset, I can get it to bring up a colored screen, lighter-blue on top an darker-blue on bottom that looks like perhaps the start of a loading screen, but then it never does anything else, regardless of how long I wait.
The Home app does not ever find the Chromecast, and the Chromecast's own SSID doesn't appear to broadcast, so I don't seem to be able to connect to it that way.
Any suggestions?

So I was having the same issue and none of the resetting anything worked . It was the router idk why but you gotta go on your phone or computer to your internet router settings and manually add the MAC address of your chromecast (which you find in google home device settings information and it’ll tell you the IP and the MAC address you just add that to your routers allowed MAC addresses and all of the sudden it became discoverable again
