Chromecast 4K Ambient Mode Kills Apps

If I'm watching something on my Chromecast on Plex or YouTube (the two primary apps I use), and I pause for a couple minutes to get a cup of coffee or use the restroom, Ambient mode automatically starts. When I return and dismiss the absolutely moronically implemented Ambient Mode, I'm booted to the home screen.

This is annoying and frustrating because with Plex I usually watch local programming, and I have to reopen Plex and manually navigate back to where I was in my program and re-set up my preferred playback speed. With YouTube, sometimes it will completely crash and lose where I was, sometimes it'll take me back to the video I was watching.

With other stream devices I'm able to change the activation time of screensavers or completely disable the screensavers (what Google renamed to Ambient Mode), why is this BASIC feature not included in the Chromecast? It's even a feature of Android OS and has been since at least 3.0 (when I first started using Android devices).

This one missing QOL feature has me seriously considering jailbreaking my Chromecast to remove the APK for ambient mode, rolling my own device on a Raspberry Pi, or switching to a Nvidia Shield. After a year of this garbage UX, I'm just about done.

After some additional digging today (I've been trying to fix this issue for months), I discovered you can now disable the Ambient Mode app. However, when paused, this causes the Chromecast to turn itself off.

In the Developer Options I have enabled the "Stay awake" option. I hope this finally fixes the one thing that's been making my Chromecast experience frustrating and annoying.

After disabling the Ambient Mode app, and enabling the "Stay Awake" option in Developer options, it looks like I've been able to solve the issue. I'm not sure why moderators here said that it wasn't possible to disable Ambient Mode, because it is. Oh well, just chalk it up to people not being familiar with the product that they support.
